Help Help Help!

I read this post on one of my other forums and I don't know what to tell her....you ladies have so much knowledge please help me out!

I haven't been to the dentist in 20 years and of course I would end up needing major dental work while trying to breastfeed. But since breastfeeding tends to tax the bones and teeth, I shouldn't be too surprised.

One of my wisdom teeth was causing me a lot of pain so I broke down and saw a dentist yesterday. The xray revealed significant decay and she referred me to an oral surgeon. I saw the surgeon today and he recommended removing all four since I will be sedated anyway, and I'm already committed to the antibiotics and pain killers.

What sucks is the earliest they can do the surgery is Thursday the 20th. That means a total of two weeks of pumping and dumping since the antibiotic I'm taking has 'potential risk' to Emily.

The whole thing has me depressed at the moment, but I'll get over it. The good thing is I'm finally getting some use out of the dental insurance I've been paying on for years, AND that's gonna run out August 15th. So I guess it's good it's happening now.

As for Miss Emily, I'll try to stretch out the 40 oz of EBM I have in the freezer and supplement with formula. I'm thinking I'll give her the EBM in the morning and formula at night with the hope it will help her sleep better. But I'm wide open for suggestion.

Thanks for letting me vent

When it comes to taking an antibiotic while bf'ing, I think kellymom.com is a good place to go. I would have demanded they give me something that was okay while nursing, personally. Sometimes, when a doctor says you can't bf while taking this medication, they don't really know for sure, and are just saying that "to be safe" kwim? I'd encourage her to check it out.

And give her the link to Dr. Hale's forum, you can't ask him questions but I'd bet the antibiotic she has to take would already be listed.
