How much dye?

I am not normally a poster here, but I need some help from you crafty mamas, because I am clueless!

My LLL will be tye dying t-shirts for WBW in August. How much dye do we need? I think we're doing like 150 or 200 t-shirts. Looking at the Dharma Trading website, there are so many sizes of packages of dye, but I have no clue how much to buy. I don't want to end up with a ton of leftover dye, or not have enough at the last minute.

Can you help? :

Hmmm...I missed this probably due to the server being down. But better late than never

The way I tie-dye I use 2tbs of dye powder to every 16 oz of water. This is slighty more than generic recipes but it gives vibrant color. Rounding up and averaging the wieght of the dye powder(diff. colors have diff. densities) we can estimate that each tablespoon weighs about .4 ounces. Going from this I would say that you would need about a total of 48 ounces of dye powder for 200 shirts.

This is assuming that you would use 2 tbs. per 16 oz of water. You can cut back alittle and use like 4tsp and still get good color. Also remember it is better too have to much than too little. And if you keep the dye power in a tightly sealed container in cool dry storage it can last for a year +.

HTH!
