Natural Progesterone to cure PPD

When I gave birth to my daughter over 2.5 years ago, I came down with PPD and wasn't aware of it- all I knew was that I wasn't the same since giving birth and I felt as though my life would possibly never be good again. About a year and a half after giving birth I visited a doctor and he put me on both Wellbutrin and Lexapro. It worked for me, but came with some horrible side effects. I ended up pregnant only a few months later and weaned off the meds. I have been fine since, but I'm due to deliver my son in the next three weeks and want to prepare myself for the possible return of PPD. Since becoming pregnant this time around, I have been learning to live a more natural lifestyle and want to avoid medication if at all possible. I have discussed this with my doula and she has informed me about the use of natural progesterone as an alternative to meds. Here is the link she provided me with: Post Partum Depression and Natural Progesterone

I was wondering if any of you ladies have heard of this or have used it yourselves for PPD? I am very interested in trying it, if need be.

My SIL uses it and swears by it. She also said it helped her lose weight more easily becauseit alleviates cortisone, or something like that. She even gave me a jar. Me? I'm more leary. I worry that if I supplement with progesterone then my body will change and make even less... plus I'm nursing and don't want to risk it... so, no help from me there. She really likes it, though.

It's actually safe to use while nursing. I tend to be estrogen dominant so it was because I used NPC that I was able to keep my little Seamus bug implanted and going strong.

I haven't used it much with my ppd but I plan on starting again here soon, I just need to order more, I really like Prolief by Arbornne.

Anyhow am off to read the article

ETA: There is mention of this in the book The Natural Guide to Pregnancy and Postpartum Health

I need to find a website or something that is going to instruct me on where to apply the cream, how often, in what amounts, etc. Anyone know where I can find this info?
