Has anyone done a belly cast?

I was thinking of doing one with this pregnancy as I didn't with my first and this is my last baby.

Has anyone else done this? Were you glad you did? What did you end up doing with the cast?

I'm also curious if people bought a special kit or just gathered the supplies themselves-- either way, any tips you can lend would be great!

I thought it would be nice to the women at our "baby celebration" help me with a cast, it seems like a neat idea!

That's exactly what my friends did for me at a little belly-blessing they threw for me -- I guess someone had brought a kit and this is what it looked like:

It was great. It is still sitting in the baby's room but I am planning to paint it with a tree and some pressed flowers.

My doula helped me do one just a couple of weeks ago. I love how it turned out. It's in the baby's room and I'd like to use his little foot prints on it to help decorate it. It's strange. . .I felt so proud of my body when I looked at it. I saw something I don't see when I look in the mirror.

I did one with my first and am going to do one this week.

I just used plaster strips. It turned out wonderfully. I decorate them and hang on the wall.

i did one! my husband and i did the cast and then my friends at my blessingway painted it for me. my sil bought a kit for me. i thought it was fun. it is in our backroom right now and i have no idea about a permanent spot for it in the future. but i'm glad i did one.

I'd like to do one... but I want enough plaster rolls so I can cover belly and chest so it doesn't look like it's cut off funny (you know what I mean?) - where would I go to get the plaster rolls if I wanted to?

A mdeical supply store maybe? It's the same stuff used for broken bone casts so I would call around to that kind of store first. :

Yeah I get mine at a medical supply store. The book I have recommends 8-12 rolls of 2-3 inch strips depedning how much you want to cover and half of that if you use the 4-6 inch strips.

You can also get plaster rolls @ a craft supply store (Michaels, AC Moore, etc).

My midwives are helpgin me do mine next week- I'll be 38.5 weeks!!! I can't wait!

Ooooo, that is such a great picture! Thanks so much for the tips. I can't wait to do the belly cast, I hope the gals helping me with it are going to enjoy it, too.
