question about recycling

I read this on another thread somewhere

"We don't recycle anymore. We might again one day, but right now the research I've done suggest that recycling uses more energy and produces more waste than simply making new products"

does anyone know anything about this and where I could find info that shows this is true? I surely do not want to be recycling if that is the case-lol

That sounds a bit odd to me. I'd definitely like to hear more about that, since I can't imagine throwing my 3 recycle bins worth of stuff in the garbage each week would be better.

That is what I'm saying...someone help. I spend lots of time rinsing and washing out stuff to recycle. You know it takes like forever to get all the soap out of a laundry deterg. jug etc..

I don't even rinse things out. I just throw them in the bin as is, since our recycling company says we don't need to do so.

Well I should find out what ours says, except the cans etc... b/c dh is anal about it(says it will cause bugs and stuff??) We go once a week to drop it off

Oh, I"ve heard this, too..eavesdropping on a very loud pompous "hippy" trying to impress some girl. I honestly don't remember his facts but they were very ambiguous.

It is very true that *some* things take more energy and resources to recycle than it would be to chuck it.
That's not true of all things you can recycle. I got this info from an environmental engineer, though I forgot the details of what is better than others. Sorry.
