Daisy's here!

First of all massive congratulations to everybody I so rarely have the chance to be online now, only sometimes in the library, so I haven't been keeping up at all...

Oh yes, and I've had a baby! On 7th July, born in my Mum's bathroom, as planned, (but only just!) 7.1 lbs and really really long. Absolutely gorgeous, perfect, blah blah!

My waters broke on the Tuesday morning, dh arrived on Monday night from Poland, due date was 19th but I knew when he came things would start to move. I didn't realise starting could take so long!!
The midwife checked me and babe over and said I had the right to hang on at home and try and get those contractions stronger until Friday am when I would have to go to hospital to be checked, and probably induced. So I spent three days walking uphill, dancing, bathing in clary sage, bemoaning the fact that we couldn't have sex as the waters had gone...then the mucous plug went, everything was coming out except the baby! The contractions only got stronger at night lying with dh in bed listening to bjork's vespertine! Then they would stop again.

Thursday night things started hotting up, and Mum called the midwife at 2am friday, we got the bathroom ready etc, and then i did a stupid thing, I moved into the bathroom where it was all supposed to happen, decided to get active, etc, and the contractions got weaker again. It carried on until 6am when I felt clearly in the land of transition. I was howling like a banshee. Whoever said second babies are easier?? I was totally at the end of my tether with the pain but I comforted myself by remembering transition from last time. The end was in sight. Midwife checked dilation for the first time. 4 fucking (excuse me) cms!!

That was it. i collapsed on a beanbag and said get the ambulance and get me an epidural now.
Midwife gave me gas and air which I gulped like a fish on dry land, no idea if there was any effect, but I was at least still alive. I had totally given up. The ambulance people knocked on the door half an hour later and....
I was fully dilated. :

I just should have stayed lying on my left side and not moving throughout the whole labour - anyway. I got there in the end. Then 20 minutes of pushing and the wonderful hand of the ambulance woman appearing just when I needed it...and out she came, miraculous little Daisy, just looking around...and in came dd to see her 'still dirty' and it was just fantastic!

She latched on immediately and all was well. Apparently no stitches, etc, until after the placenta slipped out I did start to lose a lot of blood, turned out there was a nasty tear high up and the ambulance which had just got back to the hospital had to come all the way out again! (One mortified midwife). So I kept my fri am appointment, but with dh and my beautiful baby.

Best to all!

Oh wow..great story!!! Hope you are feeling well and I ADORE the name Daisy. It speaks of purity and simplicity, joy and beauty. She is two weeks old now, how are you both doing?

I can't believe how fast you dilated...boy can I relate! My daughter's birth was similar in terms of 2cm to fully dilated in like an hour...crazy!:

CONGRATULATIONS!

Thanks everyone - yeah it was both the slowest and the fastest birth I can imagine!!

My recovery has gone very well this time, I'm feeling pretty good and healed up now, this may be thanks to drying grindng and eating the placenta in little doses for the first ten days after which I just naturally stopped. I can recommend it....
