We get them at the Asian market. They're wooden, and they come in packs of two for a couple of dollars.

I lick both ends of the Q-tip before I insert in the ear. I love Q-tips. It is borderline compulsive. DW thinks I am nasty for licking it. I do not see why. It is not as if I lick it after I put it in my ear. Now that would be nasty.

I cannot believe I just read three pages of a thread on q-tips....

And put me in the "I must be doing it wrong" camp. However, there is one machine in the circuit at the gym that I never miss....

I really like cleaning my ears when I am sick.. you know, when your head feels sort of cloudy?

It always seems to help me focus better.. not sure why.

dh is a big ear cleaner. He cleans it every day, and the kids' too

I am glad someone brought up the Ferengi- it was just what I was thinking about as I was reading along.

here is an interesting tidbit.. Baby A is two years old. He has passed and failed hearing tests a lot. So, I took him in again, and he passed this time. I was kind of upset, because if he doesn't talk due to a hearing problem, we could get him an aid or something, and it is "treatable" but all the not knowing stuff can't be fixed, kwim?

So I was telling the tech this, and she said, well, he can hear, but there is a lot of wax in there, but he was to see the ear nose throat doctor next, so she told me to talk to him about it..

The ENT DR said that a lot of wax blockage can cause a hearing child to fail a hearing test (specifically the echo one where a signal is sent into the ear, and it registers it coming back). He looked in A's ears, and said, yep, there is a lot of wax in there, we're going to pull it out..

He gets a thing that looks like a pick your dentist uses to scrape your teeth, and another one that looks like sort of a bent skinny scissors. He pulls out some really black wax out of one year about teh size of a green bean. He flips him over, and pulls two smaller pieces (about the size of my nail bed each) out of the other side. I was a bit disappointed. He goes back in, and pulls out one the size of a QUARTER! Holy crap!

yep, we are going back in six months. It was definately worth it for just the entertainment factor, if nothing else.

I'm an ex q-tip user... I kept getting ear infections, and I think I was pushing the wax *further* in. Now they pop constantly & I know my hearing is effected...I need to get to the Dr. to have him clean them out...

But ohhhh, for just one good scratch... or the warm water pressure *delighted shivers*

I have a freaky ear wax story from when I was a kid. When I was 5 or 6, my ears itched all the time. I would press the heel of my hand over my ear, then pull it away fast. The suction helped the itch. I was doing this one day, and the suction pulled a huge piece of ear wax out. But I dropped it in the kitchen and it rolled away. I couldn't find it again, and my Mom never believed that wax bigger than a raisin just popped out of my ear. But it did.

And the q-tip thing - oh yeah!!!! But it only feels really good about once a week. Q-tipping every day makes my ears hurt.

Hi! My name is PikkuMyy and I'm an earaholic!

Like many of you, every day is a bit too much - gets too dry. Every other day, especially if the qtip is a little wet. Ahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He went to the doctor, who took a huge turkey baster full of hot water and blasted it into his ear, dislodging the wax ball, which fell with a plunk into the basin.

Oooooohhh . . . doesn't that sound like heaven?
I clean out my daughters ears with a 12cc curved tip syringe. I fill it up with peroxide and warm water hold it about an inch from the opening of her ear canal and shoot it into her ears. She was having trouble hearing all of a sudden and I could see big balls of wax in each ear and didnt want to push them further with a Qtip. It took a while but I got the wax balls out, but they came out and they were big and nasty. Now she begs me to do it all the time, I guess the bubbles from the peroxies tickle and sound funny to her

It has to be wet. I usually do it after shower or i run the q-tip under water for a second.

This thread made me go out and buy qtips!

A friend did end up in the ER after a tragic incident involving a qtip and his leather motorcycle jacket. He's not the brightest bulb on the tree, though.
