Well, I was just on the verge of posting "How long has this forum been here!?!?" - so I guess you answered that! Look at all the posts here though, where the heck were they?! : This is a GREAT forum idea!

I'm not sure if I like the title, though. It sounds like we are claiming to be gifted at parenting . "Parenting gifted children" would have been better IMO.

I had never seen this before and was wondering how I could have missed it.
I was reading the threads and wondering why they are from 2005 and nobody was posting here.

Yeah, the title was confusing, as I thought 'gifted' was a PC term for 'mental problems'...if that makes any sense.

After reading, though, I am realizing I do have 'gifted' children. I just thought they were called 'extremely intelligent', though. I always got suggestions for 'gifted' programs and just turned away because I thought they were saying my kids were deficient or something.
I guess I really don't know much about this subject. I do know my kids are way smarter than me and the oldest had her IQ tested and it was 132, and I was told that she should see a specialist so she could get into a 'gifted' program. I thought it meant they were saying she was really 'dumb' and needed help, but then I was looking at scores and I guess it is really high.
She is now 10 years old and wants to take college classes, but still remain with her peers/age group. I did find a school that will let her do so, and has been letting her do schoolwork that is 5th grade level, but I still don't know what that really means.

Okay, I am done rambling and off to read more threads to learn more.

THANK YOU.... i definately have one child who is gifted... and i *Think* my 11 yr old is... he is my nephew whom we adopted last spring so i can hardly wait to see what his ability truly is:

Congratulations on the new forum. I don't know if I belong here or not, but I have been mostly lurking the gifted threads. I'm so happy the decision was made to open a forum just gifted!

Just wanted to jump in for a minute. I have three kids - my oldest is twelve and gifted, my middle is eight and has an autism-spectrum disorder, and my youngest and three and gifted. I never jumped in on any of the debates, but I have to say that I am soooo glad to see this new forum. As a parent of both gifted and special needs children, I think it's a great idea to seperate the two.

Just wanted to say Hi. My oldest is both gifted and SID (sensory issues). She's got a lot of issues that we're dealing with, so it'll be nice to have others to chat with about it.

OK, now this makes sense. I wonder why on the "special needs of the gifted child" people were getting all huffy. I was thinking.. umm. it's in the parenting the gifted child forum, what else would we be discussing? :

I'm new here and just posted on the #9 thread. I'd like to say I'll mostly lurk because I'm not sure just 'how' gifted my kids are yet, but knowing me, I apparently can't keep my fingers from typing and typing...
