Can a toddler cause micro tears under his foreskin?

My ds is 2 1/2 and (as all boys do) loves to play with his genitals when they are accessible. I've noticed a couple times over the past two weeks that he will play with himself, sometimes causing an erection (do you call it that when they are still so young?), sometimes not. He really likes to pull on his foreskin too.

Dh is circ'd so doesn't really have experience in this area. He says, if it hurt ds he wouldn't do it so he should be okay.

My question is if I should be worried that ds could possibly be causing infection-inviting micro tears to the tissue holding the glans and foreskin together. Should I inspect to see if separation has occurred? We have never observed any redness or swelling so I suspect everything is fine but still wanted to know if anyone had any advice.

mine too!

My 4 year old does the same thing too! hehehee

My theory is the same as your DH, if it hurts him he wouln't do it. I playfully asked him once, "OUCH! doesn't that hurt?" He laughed and said "no mommy!" I never worried about it much. I figure, kids have probabally been doing it since the beginning of time.

Both of my guys "found" themselves around 7 months in age....they have kept it up ever since "Boys and their toys" and all that Seriously though, my guys have never had a problem and I have read that it is normal and natural for then to play because it helps to break the normal adhesions they are born with to facilitate becomming retractile. If you are worried though, you could always keep his fingernails short

Take care,

My friend's little boys do that all the time! If they didn't play with their penises then they probably would never retract (it would take longer at any rate) so it's a good thing He'll stop before it hurts.

love and peace.

: What everyone else said. No need to try to look to see how retractable he is sine it really dosnt matter and there is no way for you to know how far is to far.
