oooo, i had to post this somewhere and i'm sort of afraid to post anywhere else for fear of... well... you know how some MDC mamas are sometimes when they give opinions... :

anyway, i got all brave two nights ago and put a waterproof mat, towel and a prefold on my bed, put my nakey-bummed baby on it and just went to bed... that's right... none of my big nighttime dipes i just invested in... nothing. and guess what? she went the whole night w/o peeing.... she nursed to sleep, nursed 5 hours later, and then we got up 4 hours after that and went potty in the potty, came back, nursed again, and got another 2 hours of sleep! THEN, she did the same thing last night. :

Is this bad? does anyone think this is unhealthy for her? i'm sure she's not, not peeing b/c she doesn't have a dipe on, b/c she's waaaaay too young for that right? i know this is TMI, but her pee in the morning was much more yellow than her during the day pees, but didn't seem unreasonably concentrated. just wanted to field that comment before going to the EC board in case i've missed something.

Bamboomama I had to reply. ALL my kids have done that. It used to worry me terribly but Anna is 8 wks and is holding it in until she wakes up 6-8 hrs and floods the diaper. I change my kids with every wet/poop immediately (no ec for me). I'm not sure why this is but the upside is all my kids potty trained before 2 and have never wet the bed ever. I think some kids are just like that. I have a sister whose daughter is 4 and is potty trained but still wets her pants and bed frequently she just has poor muscle control which I think will continue to develop. I don't think either is bad both are extremes of normal. jmo

by theway i think ec is great just don't have the time or inclination since my kids pt just fine.

MY dd basically doesn't pee at all during the night and she sleeps for 6-8 hour stretches (it's possible she's doing one little one, because we use disposables overnight, so it might just seem too dry to tell). Since she's wetting dipes all day long, I don't really worry about it.

ETA: I just read about a study that said bf babies are less likely to be bed-wetters than ff babies. The study suggested that it was because bm aids development...but I wonder if it also has something to do with a sense of security, given that most ff babes I know aren't bottle-nursed, at least not for long (and since bed-wetting can be--although it certainly isn't always--a manifestation of anxiety).

Hello all! We're back a day early from our vacation-- we picked the right week to get out of Paris-- it was HOT here and in the countryside we had fresh air and cool mountain breezes and nice walks in the forests and around lakes-- it was so great. Geo slept so well and his heat rash totally disappeared. I hope things cool off a bit here next week, for everyone's sake!

We ended up coming home early because all the string-pulling we tried on behalf of the ILs paid off and they were evacuated from Beirut today! Soooooooo excited and relieved. We talked to some friends who were evacuated earlier this week, a couple with their baby who is about 14 wks old-- and they said if they ever have to choose again between evacuation and being bombed, they'll chose the bombs. Apparently it was a pretty awful experience. But we're glad they're safe and that the ILs are FINALLY on their way. But I just can't imagine how weird this must be for them-- they're leaving everything behind and don't know when they'll be back. They're only allowed to bring 20 lbs of luggage per person...

NYCVeg-- I was SO glad to see your post about bfing getting better. Yay! Finally!

Funny all the TTC talk-- I'm thinking I want about 3 years between kids, so we'd ttc when Geo is between 2 and 2.5. And just a few short weeks ago I could not comprehend why ANYONE would ever consider having more than one child!

ecoteat-- sorry about the mosquitos-- they are my least favorite thing ever. We spent the week swatting flies, I think DH musta killed at least 50-- for some reason the French don't do screens on their windows.

MCB-- hope the childminding goes well! I was glad to read that your ped appt went well and you had no problems re: vaxes.

Well, I'd do more personals but we only got about 3 hours of sleep last night between hungry babe and lots of early-morning urgent calls between Beirut, Paris and St Sauve d'Auvergne!

OMG Amy, blueberry spice cake with cream cheese frosting sounds so freaking good right now! Man, I'm a flippin' mosquito buffet. They don't seem to bother DH : and he makes fun of me b/c he says they can smell my fear. I sure am glad we live fifteen floors up so I can sit outside and not have to worry about being dinner for some hungry little vampire!

BambooMama DS usually doesn't pee after he's down for the night either, sometimes when he's taking a nap too. When he wakes up and for sometime after is when I'm catching most of his pees. You are brave! I keep DS in a loose PF with no cover on at night and an open oversized diaper cover under him. I'm afraid that if I leave him nekkie "the arc" will choose that night to get all of us good and wet. I understand what you mean about worrying about your babe holding it too long. I don't do the "sssss" everytime DS goes. I just want to get better at me reading his cues and him going when he wants not necessarily when I think he has to. I'll just be like "Yay baby, you pottied!" or something. They had a thread about this on the EC board and I believe the consensus was that it's pretty normal for babies to hold it like that. Cwazie babies...

Kat a potluck sounds like a great idea! I don't think I'm having any anxiety. Well, not any that's not related to being a mama anyway!

Yay Marylizah! So glad the ILs are out! Boy, I can't even imagine how hard it must be for them to leave everything behind like that.

Hi mamas- just back from a trip for a family where i couldn't use the computor much- I missed you all! Glad to hear everyone is doing pretty well. We had a great trip, Ari was amazing with all the wedding festivities (it was a Bengali wedding with days of parties and ceremonies and fun to be had) and got lots of attention from all the relatives! And he sure looked cute in the little outfit that was bought for him! I was worried about the plane and car rides but he was a trooper (though I must admit we opened the package on the pacifier someone had given us that I was sure I would never use-: it sure came in handy!)

its funny all the talk of hair loss- its not me loosing it, but ds! He is loosing that thick mass of baby hair and there isn't much under it! He kinda looks like a balding old man, but in the cutest of ways of course!

Marylizah - glad to hear the ILs are ok. i think it's really interesting though to think about what i would pack if i only could bring 20 lbs, and may never return to the rest of my stuff. that's got to be a really hard thing to do!!

Ugh, keeping Phoebe happy was a challenge today. We usually go hear chamber music on Friday mornings, which she quietly nurses or sleeps through, but today she was all grunty and squirmy so we left early. Once we got home she cried all day! The only peace I could get was while wearing her, and as soon as she'd doze off I'd try to put her down and she'd scream again. Oh, the screaming was SO unhappy. I wish I knew what was making her so miserable! She's almost asleep for the night, a little later than usual. I hope she's back to normal tomorrow. I'm thankful that when she does get in a funky mood it's always been pretty short-lived and unusual.

Anyway, I'll try to respond to everyone tomorrow, but if I just can't find the time, have a nice weekend!

Simon looks like a balding old man, too! He's got this ring of dark hair around his head, but virtually NONE on top!

Kirsten too. She looks like a balding mob boss !!!! Her new hair is coming in very, very blonde, so it's hard to see.

Quinn's hair is curly!! I love it and everyone comments on it. It's dark brown....he has lots of it and...especially in the heat/humidity...it curls into little ringlets.

It really won't be *that* different over in Life With Babe. I mean we can still have our weekly thread. It will still be our little private (well as private as it can be on a public website ) group.

I bought a used double jog stroller last week! I LOVE it!! I'm actually about to pack my crew up for an early morning walk so DH can sleep in.

Heh...heh. DD climbed in the stroller and wants to GO, GO, GO!! Bye....
