Quitting vaxing

Hi all,

My 2 year old is due for a check up and dh have 90% decided to say no to vax. I did delay vax until 3 months and and said no to Hep B. Now that I am not in the middle of severe PPD I am able to read and think. What tipped me to the non-vax side was a speaker at our local health food store. He talked about the ingredients (formaldahyde!!) and that you can still get the disease you were vaxed against!!

I have 2 questions:
1.We live in the country and often don't wear shoes...Is we at risk for tenus then? I heard you can get tetnus from a puncture would with unfected manure on it. We live next to a ranch and will have more animals soon.

2. I live in CA...do I just tell his dr when it is shot time, "no thanks" or do I have to have a reason...

I will be eading the threads for some more info too.
Thank you for your help!!,
Jennifer

I don't think you have to explain at all. Proff of vaxes OR proof of an exemption is only "mandatory" for school or daycare, I believe. So at this point, you don't HAVE to do anything but say "no."

Tetanus is really rare. I was even before the vax. Something like 600 cases a year was the max. (iirc, that's 600 cases, not 600 deaths).

Oh, your dc probably has had at least 3 doses of DTaP, right? 3 doses is considered fully vaxed. And IF your dc got a deep puncture wound, and there was a liklihood that it could be at risk for tetanus, you could always get another dose then if you were really concerned.

Most safety AND efficacy studies on DTaP were done using 3 doses.

There isn’t much data on the efficacy and protection from one or two doses of DTaP. Pertussis vaccine trials are difficult to do. Virtually everyone who has looked at this issue uses 3 doses as the benchmark.

Increases in the frequency and magnitude of local reactions at the injection site with increasing dose number have occurred for all currently licensed DTaP vaccines.

I'm somewhat in the same place. My dd was fully vaxed till 3yo. She is supposed to get her next shots at her 5yr check up. I've decided no more for her and none at all for baby. I have no idea how her ped will react, I'm dreading it because I like him, but I'm not going to let either child have any shots. We are going to homeschool anyway so that makes it a little easier, but I'm still a little apprehensive about actually telling the dr no.

Just say no. You do not need to explain in any way, and you shouldn't.

I agree with the just say no technique though it can be tough when in the office. I recently stopped vaxing. My 4 year old got a booster and flu shots this past year and went into hysterics. He's never done that before and I asked the nurse if we really had to do this. Of course we know what her answer was and she proceded to hold my son's legs over the side of the table while he was tensing and yelling and jammed 4 needles into his legs. I was simply horrified. Every time i go in they tell me that there are more shots required for my kids ages. I told my dh about it and he was horrified. We were under the impression that our kids couldn't go to school if they weren't vaccinated and when we found out about exemption we felt terribly guilty. It isn't just the fact that they hurt, but we had no idea what was really in vaccines. The pamphlets they give are very deceptive. When they started pressuring me to bring in my 20 month old for another hep B I said enough. I cancelled his appt and told them I don't want him to have any more vaccines. Our next child won't have any. They can tell you that you have to do it, but you can take your child and leave. HTH and gl whatever you decide.
