I am not very crafty and don't know how to use a sewing machine, but I would like to make or have someone make a cape for my 3 1/2 year old. I want it to be his own special cape and not a superman or batman type cape that I could buy. I posted about this on a local natural mamas yahoo group and someone offered to make a satin cape with a big D or somesuch on it for me for $25- $30 depending on fabric I want. I'm wondering if this is a reasonable price, if I could possibly make such a thing with no experience and what kind of fabric would be best. My dad does have a sewing machine and a little bit of sewing skills, so I could enlist his help. Any advice or tips would be welcome.

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

Your basic cape is very simple to make. Take a square piece of fabric, fold over at the top about 6 inches roughly, about an inch down from the fold sew a straight line. This will make a casing for ribbon to go through to make the tie. I like to stitch the ribbon in place at the center so it won't pull out.
And VOILA you have a cape.
