I have been having some depression lately. I have a history of it as well. It kind of crept up on me this time. I slowly started withdrawing from people, then feeling isolated, then withdrawing more, etc. I was feeling down but not really admitting it until just now. DD is now 7 months old. This has been going on for about a month or two. It just seems so late in the game to be ppd. Is that so? I called a doc already, and it feels good to know I've been proactive. I also started the mini pill about 2 months ago and I'm wondering if I should stop taking it. Has anyone else had any problems with the mini pill? And, do you think it could be ppd this late?

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

I've known a lot of women who react very negatively to the hormones in the pill (mini or not) or depo shots postpartum -- it can trigger an episode of depression.
i'm glad you got a call into your doctor and that you recognize the signs. That's great self care!
I've known women get PPD as late as 9-12 months postpartum. It's such a year of changes, hormonal, family wise etc, that it can really stress all your reserves.
Hope that you are feeling better soon!

It can certainly be ppd...I wasn't diagnosed till my dd's 8mo appointment (she and I have the same family practitioner
). PPD can hit any time in that first year, and in some mamas it doesn't hit till later...or it doesn't become noticed until later but then you look back and realize it's been there all along.
Hormonal BC (even the mini-pill) can tip a borderline hormonal condition over the edge. I wouldn't stop the pills cold turkey (it'll just mess up your hormone levels even more to do that) but tell your doctor you're concerned about the impact of the pill and discuss a gentle waning process or a "cold turkey" with their supervision and support just in case your hormonal levels rebound and you feel even worse for a while.
I'm so sorry you've been hit with ppd, but glad you'll be getting help. Try to sleep, eat as well as you can, take a vitamin supplement (especially those B vitamins) and I hope you're feeling better soon.
