Interesting! My info is coming from The Nursing Mother's Herbal (Humphrey, 2003, p. 99-100) -- but I don't think that these two theories are mutually exclusive. Oatmeal may have many properties that make it a good galactogogue.

Just posting again to say that I got the chance to google around a little and saw that choline and inositol are both listed as helpful in fat transport and that together they make up lecithin, which is good for all kinds of breastfeeding issues.
