Ahhh...blissful Sunday morning. Stella is one week old, I got about 6 hours sleep last night (the most since she was born!), DH brought me french toast in bed, and we read the paper while Stella snuggled on the bed between us. I am so digging motherhood!
I teared up last night looking at her on the changing table after cleaning her little cord spot where it fell off, and thinking, she's already 7 days old, and I'll never get those days back, and that seemed incredibly sad to me, even though she makes me so happy. Are my pp hormones raging or what!!:

Week old babies already - aaawww! They're so wonderful. I can't wait to meet mine. Apparently though - my uterus is very comfortable! My first two had already come by now. My last one was a week overdue, and this little guy seems pretty content to stay put. So between 2 and 3 - I did something to make my uterus go from inhospitable to comfy!!! My dh has a theory - he thinks that it's because I'm so comfortable having a homebirth that I am super relaxed and the babies are just content to stay put. He said that he is sure if we were having a hospital birth this little guy would have come already! That's his theory! He could have a point!

*tmi!!!*

*TMI ALERT!!* ICKINESS AHOY!

So last night my parts felt strange, kinda itchy and uncomfy, and I got out a hand mirror for a peek. : pretty much sums it up. I did not recognize my business! Everything was dark purple and looked very different than i've ever seen before. It kinda freaked me out, so I asked DH to take a look, even though it made me blush furiously. He said... "Wow, that's... weird. You wanted a sign your body was doing something different, right? Well, that's really different."

So... not to squick anybody out... but has anybody else on the laborwatch taken a gander at their business? I'm guessing it's bloodflow or something, but I was just very, very surprised.

Okay, now i'm blushing. I'm just not even ready for the indignities of birth, am I?

After I had DD, I happened to peek down there and noticed everything was purplish. I honestly don't know if it went back to normal or not, b/c I don't make a habit of examining myself there, but I imagine it's completely normal.

In the last few days before I went into labor, I took a look, and it was all purplish. Freaked me out, too. I've looked once since then, just to see if it had gone back to normal or not (and to be amazed at our bodies' stretchiness). It had.

[quote=ColoradoMama] Sex is officially too uncomfortable now. Dh actually said to me today, "You look like you're in pain." "Yep - get off me now!" LOL.quote]

Oh, good, I'm not the only one. For the past two weeks I haven't wanted to have sex with dh because it just plain hurts and is totally uncomfortable. I hate that I can't enjoy it right now, because I really miss it. And I know we won't find much time for it after I our baby gets here. Or, I'll be sore from delivery and still won't want to.

Nate is 2 weeks old today. But he hasn't nursed in 12 hours . He flails around and refuses to eat, then cries and cries and falls asleep. Now he's just sleeping and sleeping. I pumped a bunch of milk and I managed to get him to eat 1 ounce.
Called his doctor...she's on vacation. Gonna call the midwif in a few minutes for her opinion. Then I'll probably call the doctor's back-up (don't even know who or where that is).
Cross your fingers it's nothing serious. : :

That sounds like it might be gas. Have you tried bicycling his legs? Giving him gas drops or gripe water? Burping him extra good? Pushing gently on his tummy? The flailing is what makes me think it's gas, I could be way off.

Thanks for the reassurance! It looks like the inside of a raw pot roast down there-- cuz yeah, I had to check again. DH offered to take a look again too, but I think he just wanted a good laugh. C'mon, labor!!

Oh, and I was up all night with cramps and backache, so that's good. Nothing else, no mucus, no show, no contractions, but I ached like all get-out. Reminded me of my awful, heavy, painful periods when I was 14 and just lay there amazed at how weird and interesting the pain was.

And good luck, Krista-- hope all is well!

Well, after a "lovely" day at Children's Hospital Boston, we're home and fine. : Apparently between 1 week to 1 month of age many congenital problems present themselves in infants, and the first sign is often a refusal to eat. So poor Nate was subjected to just about every test possible (blood twice, urine, 2 EKGs, echocardiogram, chest xrays, and the usual poking and prodding). The EKG results showed a possible heart problem, so they did a the xray, and then the detailed electrocardiogram. But the results were all normal, and the dozen doctors all said he looks super healthy. He was given a dextrose IV for a few hours and he finally started to nurse a little. This morning he finally had a "normal" length nursing.
So after 10 hours in the ER, no one knows if he just had a 24 virus or was just being fussy and sleepy. He didn't seem gassy at all. But refusing to eat and sleeping for 12 hours certainly had everyone worried.
Apparently my SIL was a very sleepy baby herself. So maybe it's just genetic. At 2 weeks he has surpassed his birthweight, even after not eating for so long, so I guess he's alright. Whew.

I am going to make a tent-sized shirt that reads the following:

1. No, I have not had the baby yet, which is why i'm still enormous and sitting here. Obviously.
2. I'm due Monday. No, i'm not being induced.
3. Yes, i'm excited. No, i'm not miserable. No, i'm not scared.
4. It's a girl.
5. No, i'm not telling you her name, because I don't know it yet. Asking me again in a sneaky fashion while winking won't change the answer.
6. I'm at work because it's really boring sitting at home waiting. I'd rather be sitting *here* doing nothing and getting paid for it.
7. Yes, I said i'm excited. And I am. It is very exciting. Really.
8. Yes, this is a fake smile, because I ache all over and have cramps and am very irritable and only got 3 hours of sleep and want to go into labor right this moment and I have already answered this exact set of questions 5 times today and PLEASE JUST READ THE SHIRT, OKAY?????

Anybody else at the end of their patience? :

OMG magpie I totally need a shirt like that! You should market that puppy, you could afford to quit your job Here are mine:

Yes, I feel fine. Really, I do. No, I haven't had the baby yet. Yes, it's getting close. Yes, we're excited. Yes, DH is excited (if he wasn't excited, would I really be talking about it unless we were getting a divorce or something??? Am I really likely to say "no, he's actually pretty pissed off" I think I may actually say that next time just to see what kind of reaction I get )

Yes, DD is excited (mostly--how excited is a 10 year old supposed to be about her new baby sibling???) Yes, it's hot and no I'm not completely miserable. I live in a house with a/c and I mostly stay here so it really isn't that hot. I have no idea if I'm dilated b/c my doc doesn't do internals, and I don't consider that information I'd like to share anyway, thank you. My cervix is not your business.

Has anyone here eaten their placenta? I planned to in case I hemorrhaged again. I didn't, but I am going to try some for the other benefits. I am going to put some in a smoothee.
I finaly got around to making it tonight. I made 500ml and had about half tonight, and will have the rest tomorrow. It tasted just like a banana strawberry smoothie. I plan on making a bigger batch tomorrow and then freezing it in individual portions and then I can thaw and drink as needed. Even Scott had a sip. I am not a fan of smoothies normally, but it was the most appealing way I found of ingesting the placenta because I didn't want to deal with the texture and I've read cooking can nullify the benefits of it.
