Dyson or other favorite vacuum?

Hi,
We're considering a Dyson vacuum in the near future. I say Dyson basically because I've seen advertising for them, but I really don't have a lot else to back me. I"d like to hear other people's experiences with Dyson, or even better, if you've used something else in addition to Dyson and what you think. Is the money worth it? I"m just so tired of seeing a lot of dust on top of my vacuum after supposidly sucking it up, I need to feel clean.
Thanks!

I personally don't have a Dyson but have been looking into them for quite a while. On another forum, I hear nothing but raves about them and sounds like they are worth the investment. If you have animals, they are great on pet hair.

i really cant say enough about the Dyson. also the savings from no bags, etc. it cleans out really easy, is a snap to use, etc.

We've had a Dyson Animal for 1.5 years now and LOVE it. It really gets the house clean. We remodeled a house recurrently and I was using it for clean up after the construction and completely clogged it up. 5 minutes of pulling it apart and washing the filter, it was good as new. Everyone is always asking to borrow my Dyson.

Another vote for Dyson. I love it, and I love when DH says he likes it, cause he didn't want to get it. I love that there are no bags to buy, and you can tell when it needs emptying. (Ain't nothing more frustrating than needing to vaccume up something, but not having any empty bags: )

I just want to add a plug for a Kirby. They are spectacular machines. New they're mucho expensive, but I've picked them up at garage sales for $10 or less. And they last forever! The first one I had (my dad found it for me) was made in 1964, and it worked great. We had taken it into a dealer to have a cord replaced, and the manager insisted on showing it to all the new sales reps in training, to prove their longevity. Most of them are bagless. I just aquired a newer one from a freecycler (mid-80's), but it requires bags.

I too love our Dyson animal....its kind of gross though to see the filth we live in Even though I vac once/twice a week, lots of pet hair in there. My DH actually went out and bought for me as a surprise because he finally used the one I'd been complaining about and said "that thing sucks" And he actually likes using the Dyson so I don't even have to vac all time, he'll do it ONCE in a while

My dh and I laugh that we get so excited over a vacuum cleaner, but we too love our Dyson!

I remember the last Dyson lover thread and I think I posted in that one that I lust over having a Dyson. I really dislike our vacuum, but on our budget just can't bring myself to spend the money on a new Dyson. I keep my eye out on craigslist, but haven't seen one yet that I am willing to shell out for. It's good to know it's worth it though (once the money is there )

I mostly lurk over here, but I had to post--we LOVE our Miele. It's small, easy to pick up, quiet, and cleans beautifully.

Sounds awefully convincing so far. We've looked a bit at cannaster vacuums like TriStar (anyone hear of them, had experiences?) on ebay, and I know or have heard they last a really long time, like decades. How long do Dyson's last? Does anyone have the plain yellow model or the red one? We're looking at spending as little as we can if we buy a Dyson, and we don't have pets, so I'm just trying to see if I can do without the animal accessories and ball thing.

Thanks!

GO OUT RIGHT NOW AND BUY THE DYSON!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to yell but it's the best money we've ever spent

Seriously that first time I vacummed I was truely grossed out by what came out of the carpet

It is wonderful and amazing. We got ours at Costco, so we saved a bit of money that way.
