Logan John arrived on Tuesday, July 25. He weighed 8 pounds 9 ounces and was 19 1/4 inches long. He was born 8 days past my due date. Sadly, he ended up coming via c section. I started having contractions on Monday evening while at Cheerleading practice with my two oldest dds. I had several at the field and the coaches were excited and so was I. I took the girls home and got them to bed. I continued having contractions, so I decided to try to get some rest. I slept until about 1 am and then I couldn't sleep anymore. I got up and came downstairs. The contractions continued to intensify and at around 5 am I called my mom and told her to come. She lives about 2 hours away and was going to be staying with our 3 dds during the birth. We got to the hospital at around 9 am and by 11:00 I was fully dilated.
The problem was that his head was still floating high and wouldn't come down. We tried different positions and pushing, but he just wouldn't budge. Shortly after noon, his heart rate started dropping with the contractions, but he was still not coming down. For these reasons, the doctor recommended a c section. She was so great about it and really hated to do it. She still felt bad the next day. She said she hates to do a c section on someone like me who has had three vaginal births and is "a great pusher." But, it wasn't happening. During the c section, she found two fibroids, low in the uterus on either side of the cervix. She really thinks this is part of the reason he wasn't moving. Also, he was a lot bigger than the other three, who were 6-7 pounds.
I have felt absolutely horrible since the surgery. That's why today is the first time I've made it back to MDC. With the other 3, I was completely myself by this point and feeling great. Today I had the staples removed and that has helped me feel somewhat better. I always knew I didn't want a c section and now I know why!! I keep telling myself that the important thing is that he is here and healthy. He's beautiful and his sisters are so in love with him. He is nursing like a champ and gaining great. He went to the doctors today to get weighed. He came home on Friday at 8 pounds 1 ounce and today he was 8 pounds%**** ounces.
