Ontario Exemption Forms??

This is where my search ended:
http://www.health.gov.on.ca/english/...unization.html

Anyone have any more info on exemption forms in Ontario? DS will be starting daycare in the fall (at 9mos) up 'til now he has had his scheduled shots, but we won't be doing anymore. So I see no problem with him getting into daycare, but he'll have his 1st birthday while attending, and I don't know how adament they'll be about getting his 12 mo ones when the time comes.

Is an exemption easy in ON?

This is the applicable section of the regulation from the Day Nurseries Act:

33. (1) Every operator shall ensure that before a child is admitted to a day nursery operated by the operator or to a location where private-home day care is provided by the operator, and from time to time thereafter, the child is immunized as recommended by the local medical officer of health. R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 262, s. 33 (1).

(2) Subsection (1) does not apply where a parent of the child objects in writing to the immunization on the ground that the immunization conflicts with the sincerely held convictions of the parent’s religion or conscience or a legally qualified medical practitioner gives medical reasons in writing to the operator as to why the child should not be immunized. R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 262, s. 33 (2).

So just write a statement saying that you object to immunization on the grounds of your sincerely held convictions, sign it, and give it to the daycare operator, possibly with a copy of the regulation.

There's a specific form of exemption for school age kids, which must be notarized, but for day nurseries, a letter is fine.

All the Ontario statutes and regs are on here:

The bit I excerpted was from the General Regulation to the Day Nurseries Act. The exemption form for school (not daycare) attendance is found as a form appended to the Regulation under the Immunization of School Pupils Act.

No, they don't make this stuff easy to find....

Hmmm...all seems easy enough- I like that there's the consciencious objection and that I don't have to mess around with the religious one.

Is immunization required for attendance at school or day care in Ontario ?
For children attending school in Ontario, a written immunization record or proof of immunization is required, by law, for diphtheria, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps and rubella unless there is a valid written exemption. Parents/guardians are required to provide this information to their local public health unit, and to update the information as necessary. There are specific vaccines required for children attending licensed daycare centres. You should contact your local public health unit or check with your daycare centre, for the specific immunization requirements.

You may decide because of medical, religious or philosophical reasons not to immunize your child. In this case, you will need to provide a valid written exemption to your local public health unit. If the disease appears in your child's school or daycare, your child may have to stay out of school/daycare until the disease is no longer present.

SOo....yes you HAVE to be vaccinated by law...unless you choose not to, in which case just fill out this form:

Yes, basically all that is required is a record, either way, so that if something is going around, they know who is vaccinated and who is not. That's just not the way it's commonly presented!
