Here we go again...ivf anyone?

I just wanted to update....I got approval for another ivf cycle, and after meeting with my Dr this week I am starting right away! With my previous insurance/dr/clinic it was required to take a month off in between, but that is not the case here. I started bcp yesterday and will have a supression check in 3 weeks. I'm not sure I felt ready for this so soon, but every month counts at my age, so here we go!
I know some of you are doing fet and I wish you all the best!!! Is anybody doing ivf?

I'll be joining you, but not so soon.

This will be my 2nd IVF cycle. My first was last fall, after 6 failed medicated IUI cycles. It worked, but I m/c in Feb. I've got two kiddos (6 & 3 years) who were clomid/iui babies. We are a two mom family using frozen sperm and I always thought that might be why I needed the clomid before. Guess it's just me!

Good luck. I'm sure it feels good to be getting started and actually be able to do something. I just got my non-group insurance set up for August, so I think I'll start the ocp whenever af shows up around the middle of the month, which would give me a retrieval date of sometime early october. All this planning.: To think that some people have to plan to not get pg!

I'm sure I'll be checking in with you a lot over the next few months.

Hi Iberk,
I have just started my first IVF cycle. I was under the impression that IVF and FET were used interchangeably. I've never been on an online board before and since I'm new to this whole procedure, I'm not even sure I undetsand the difference. I told Dena that I was with her for FET in September because that Is when my transfer is scheduled. But I just stated bcp this month for my very first ivf cycle. Lupron starts 17th and I'm not even sure what the next step is after that. So, I thought FET was the actual transfer procedure and IVF was the cycle you go through. Is that right?? I think we'll be on the same cycle.

Ivf is your fresh cycle in which you stim your ovaries to produce multiple follicles. They are retrieved and then transferred. A FET is after your cycle you have left over embryos which are usually 5,6,7 days old. These embryos are preserved for alater date in time (frozen). They can be used to try to have a baby too. Fet means FROZEN EGG TRANSFER. They are not frozen time of transfer.

Hope that helped! =)

Thank you! That helped a lot. I feel so stupid. I thought the "F" in FET meant fertilized.

So, I am starting IVF cycle. Aren't the cycles similar though? The people who are scheduled for FET in Sept. are pretty much going to be on the same cycle of meds and stuff, right? There just won't be any extraction of eggs.

There are MEDICATED FETS and UNMEDICATED.
Medicated is similiar to an IVF just minus the stimulating meds. This is a more contolled cycle and may be several week long.

UNMEDICATED is when you use your cycle (natuarl cycle). The generally use Estrogen and PIO and that is about it.

In a FET there is no Egg Retrieval.

In my Siggy is my email address. I speak with many women from various boards. It is great to talk to people in your shoes =)

Oh, you too, Jenny. I diddn't mean to exclude you- after I reread posts I see that you are ivf too...

Jenny, I had a failed IVF cycle and I'm having a FET on Monday. The difference is that because no eggs are retrieved this time around, there are no stimulation drugs and no trigger shot. I have been on Lupron for suppression and then estrogen patches. My last Lupron shot was last night, and now I'm on progestrone injections, still have the patches on (two of them), and the medrol and doxycycline to prepare for Monday. I had my negative beta on June 5, so it has been a long two month cycle to get to this point.

But hopefully, all of that info will be useless to you because you will have your IVF and get pg!

Iberk, I'm happy to see you continuing on. Fortunately, my RE believes in getting right back on the horse too, so I didn't have to wait. I think it can be best that way, just to keep plugging on rather than waiting around and worrying.

I hope it will be useless as well because I don't know how I'll even keep track of all this stuff!: I can't believe the amount of doctors appoinments I have with in the next month and a half. I'm so lucky that I'm out of work until September.
I don't want to get my hopes up but it's so hard not to.
Iberk, when do you start lupron? I start on the 17th. I'm so anxious to start but I'm wishing the summer away and I don't want to go back to work!

I'm not doing lupron. I have a supression check on the 21st, then start gonal-f and luveris if all looks good ( otherwise, a few more days on the pill). I'll take those 2 meds for about 10-14 days, while being monitored with ultrasounds and bloodwork. When the follicles have grown enough, its retrieval time...Are you a teacher? My dw is, and we are heading for some serious appts right when school begins!!!
I am a teacher and I have the same thing happening...all my appointments are for the 1st and 2nd week of school. We have a new Superintendent too and I'm freaking out about the time I might need off. I don't really need that added stress. I don't know how people do it. I'm not tenure yet so that makes me nervous. I want to be hired back.

Some of the appts are 1st come 1st serve @ 7am. Hopefully if I get there early enough I'll make it to work on time. I have a 20 minute commute from the doctor's office. That means I have to be in my car no later than 8am. I think that's even pushing it. The other appts I think I'll need to take off (which doesn't look to good the 2nd week of school). I need a day for the extraction and one for the transfer. Hopefully the 2 days of recommended bed rest won't interfere. I'm freaking out!!!

I'm planning my final FET for September probably. This will be my 4'th attempt using the embryos I conceived 11 years ago. I have 4 children so far from that retrieval cycle. I'm 41, but luckily the age/chromosonal thing isn't an issue since I was 30 when I did that cycle.

I know exactly how you feel! This past cycle, my insurance had made some changes, so instead of going to the local fertility clinic I must go to the hmo for bloodwork and ultrasounds. At the clinic, I could have appts as early as 6am, and now, the earliest is 8am! Its ridiculous really. They have taken over all appts "for consistency" but havent adapted their hours to accomodate people who may need 4 appts in one week and cant miss work. ( Or in my case, its dw, but it still affects our family). We have a young son so she stays home with him whenever possible, but it gets tricky. Obviously we don't want to tell her employer what we are doing.....its personal.
Hopefully, it will work out for all of us that we need most appts and bedrest on the weekends. Try not to stress. I know that's hard, but try...
