Marble ruined by vinegar -- How to fix it???

Long story short, the vinegar ate the finish off my marble. How do I restore the finish, smoothness and shine? I'm not talking about a large area here, it's a small piece.
I looked for marble polish in the store, but didn't see any. If they sell such a thing where would I buy it?
HELP...

Contact a flooring place and ask about if there is anything special for marble. Butcher's or bowling alley wax might work.

I think if it actually made its way through the finish the way to repair it is to have the area grinded/resurfaced.

We have terrazzo floors(which are made of marble) we recently had the entire floor diamond grinded. Before they did it there were many dull and acid pited spots.

I second the regrinding - once marble is etched with an acid, it doesn't get any better unless you re-polish/grind it. Keep anything acidic off marble (I'm sorry you learned the hard way, lol)

Some much for vinegar and water for that cleaning job...

There are several sources on the web for proper care of standard surfaces (tile, marble, grout, wood, etc). Certain substances can be used on each of these.

I can probably find some sources later and post them.
