Question for Alisa and anybody else with twins

I just had my 2nd hCG level done yesterday which is my day 21. It came back as 17,540!!!!!!! Does anybody else remember the levels during the first month? My ultrasound is next Tuesday and I am already convinced I am having twins.

Thanks
Jenn

10 days past a 5 day transfer, or 15 days past egg retrieval, my levels were 609. It was too early for an ultrasound then, of course, but within minutes of the results coming in, our doctor said the levels alone were enough to make him certain 'there was more than one in there'. Actually, there were three, but we lost one at six weeks, and went on to have healthy twin girls. I didn't have any other HCGs taken, so that's the only one I can give you, but the day and numbers are absolutely exact. I do know though that once levels really start skyrocking as yours now have, the range varies so much it is difficult to read whether twins are likely or not. I think it is those first HCGs taken from day 14 and within a few days after that that are the most meaningful indicators.

My hCG level at day 14 was 1107 which the nurse said then was quite high.

With my first pregnancy (started out as triplets) my first hcg numbers were 87. I didn't start doubling until 4 tests later. My hcg numbers were never very high though and we lost one baby at 9 weeks and the other at 12 weeks. With the twin pregnancy my first hcg level was 323 and again I didn't double until 6 tests later. IME each person seems to produce hcg levels at different levels. My friend had her first hcg test with hcg numbers at 674 and 2 days later was well over 10,000 and only had one sac/heartbeat at the ultrasound.

Good luck to you!! I can't wait to hear your news.

Jenn,
I know you had a frozen embryo transfer. How many days old were your embies when they were transferred, then how many days after that was your HCG taken? In other words, when you say day 14, do you mean 14 days after the equivalent of egg retrieval, or 14 days after the transfer of a 2 or 3 or 5 day old embryo (respectively equal to 16, 17, or or 19 days past retrieval). If you do mean the equivalent of 14 days past egg retrieval (equal to ovulation in a 'natural' pregnancy), then 1107 is indeed an exceedingly high number. How many embryos did you transfer?

Woah, Jenn!

Wow those numbers sound great! Fourteen days post 3dt my beta came back at 331 this time. I don't remember what it was the last time, but I know it was higher because I really thought we were only having a singleton this time.

Also, 21 days post retrieval my HcG was 2479.

I cannot wait until your ultrasound. I know that the numbers are not always representative of whether it is multiples or not but I, too am convinced you are having multiples. On Tuesday I am going out of town. I hope that I will be able to access MDC to see your results!

: I'm so anxious to see what happens on Tuesday, Jenn! Could you have it tomorrow instead cuz I really need something to distract me from my 11 day wait! (Okay, it's 9 now, but c'mon!)

Yeah inquiring minds want to know! I know it would be a lot of work, but twins would be awesome!

Yep, Jenn, I had three put in. The nurse said that my high estrogen and progesterone could indicate more than one in there, but on the other hand, I have been wearing patches, taking the estrogen pills, and having the progesterone shots. I don't know if the high level could be because my body is producing its own and I'm adding more in.

DH just noticed last night that we don't have enough PIO for tonight's shot. Eeep! Luckily, there is a pharmacy about an hour away that can make it for me. I'll be going there later this afternoon.

Jenn, I meant to ask you before how they calculated your due date? Obviously with IVF/FET they can't really go by LMP.

I'm trying to figure out when mine would be if my FET was 8/7 and I got a positive POAS on 8/15. Would they split the difference and make it May 11?

I just got the call from the nurse. My HCG is 41. I know that doesn't 100% rule out multiples, but if there is more than one, it's not obvious right now. I'm happy with what I have!

I go back for another HCG test on Tuesday.

Jenn,

I've been off the boards for something like two weeks and have been thinking about you and your ultrasound results. CONGRATULATIONS on your twin pregnancy. I'm so excited for you! You're just about a month behind me (due date of March 1). Have you been released from the RE yet?
