I stood up for a mom @ Walmart!

Ok, I normally don't go to Walmart but we had to go to a wedding in Southern IL and didn't get in till late and needed a few things.
So there was a woman holding this little baby (I mean actually holding her and not in a car seat) I asked her how old and she said four weeks. She was in the line next to me. Then DH said, "look your not the only one who walks around the store nursing" She was holding her down and you knew she was nursing, but you couldn't see anything more than a little stomach.
The woman in front of me rolled her eyes and said something to the cashier (18 y/o boy) and the middle aged woman who was about to relieve him. Then the middle aged woman said "she must just like to get attention, it should be illegal, like no shirt, no shoes, no service" DH stepped back cause he knew I was about to blow. I said it's completely legal, there is a law protecting that right" THEN GET THIS!!! she told me it was IMMORAL! I said so God designed us this way to hid. It's our societies problem not a breastfeeding womans problem. She said that young men shouldn't see it. I said they see worse every where else they look. Women have breast (which may be sexy) but they are made for breast feeding.

I am sure the mother could hear us, When I looked back over I could see that she had covered up w/ a blanket. So while my husband paid, I walked over to her and said "Sorry for bothering you, but I just wanted to give you applause for nursing when and where your baby was hungry. and to ignore the ignorance of others" She was very thankful that I said something to support her.

Just had to share.

I can't believe how ignorant some people are that she would think something natural and non-sexual as breastfeeding is not fit for a young man's eyes!?!? Yet, look at all the crap they see every day, pornographic commercials on TV, dehumanizing women in commercials, adoration of crime and violence in shows (have you noticed how a lot of movies are coming out with crimes as seen from the criminals point of view, trying to make people think it's okay). A young man in particular SHOULD see breastfeeding and be taught to respect it. That woman was so wrong and you were so right!

ROTFLMAO! Hopefully my husband would have as much common sense. Good for you! How many women have been turned off of breastfeeding by those very same attitudes!

My dh would've done the same. He knows how I feel about "that stuff." (as he calls it)

Good for you for sticking up for her. If only I would've had someone like that around when I had my first. I always made sure I found a secluded place to nurse so I didn't offend anyone. Needless to say that's not happening anymore.
