Help!

Ugh! So next Tuesday is registration for Kindergarten. And I am so torn between sending ds or hsing him. I have a 5 week old and a 2 1/2 year old also. Well my 5 yr. old is really needing more than I can give right now. With the new baby everything is crazy. All people tell me is this is how it's going to be and for his best good send him to K at school. I at this point feel like whatever choice I make will be the wrong one! I WAS set on hsing all of them atleast for K taking it one year at a time. I have been told basically that if I don't send him I am screwing him over. DS has sensory intergration problems and really needs help learning to socialize. I have already foinf a hsing group I was wanting to join. I guess I am rambling and overtired. Adjusting to the new baby is taking a while for all in our house. I just want to make the right choice and do what is best for Ds and us as a whole family. any words of wisdom would be loved! Has anyone else gone through this? Can hsing be done great, with such a new baby added to the mix? What tips do you offer for socialization. Ds is very into science and does not like ANY sports so he doesn't want to join any sports teams. We are not religous so we don't have any groups stuff like that. UGH help!

Candice, breath easy to know what ever decision you make is not set in stone.

Pick what your heart is telling you to do. You may already know. And keep reminding yourself you can always switch it at any time. That's the beauty of having choices.
And more importantly, trust in your heart no matter what people may say you are doing to your kid. You know what's right for your child and what is right for you at this time.

You can always try one or the other and then switch if it isnt working
Kindergarten can always be skipped anyway...you could try to homeschool him and then if it doesnt work you can either enroll him partially through the school year or wait til next and enroll him in either kindergarten or 1st grade.
It really helps to know your local laws....i know here kids dont legally have to attend school until they are 7 yrs old. I was going to homeschool my oldest, but wasnt able to give him the attention he needed...adn now he is going to a really good public specialized school

We have two 6yos and they went to K at the ps last year. (Our 11yo also tried a year of ps after several years hsing) One is special needs (Asperger's) and that was one reason we made the choice.

They had a great teacher. I am glad they went. They really enjoyed the routines and such, even if a few things did frustrate me. We are happy to return to homeschool this year.

I was deeply disappointed in the support for special needs. I expected a bit more knowledge, competence and experience from the so-called experts on-site. This of course would vary with location. As far as sensory issues--the routines were good the clear instructions for everything were good and the overstimulating environment/long hours (our K is full-day) was not so good.

When I had infant twins I also put my oldest dd in school as a 5yo for one year, although when they were 3yo and we had another baby our oldest did well with continued homeschooling and she was then 8yo.

It was good for us to be able to make these decisions as needed. It was not very difficult to transition in and out of the school system here. (The teachers generally have had lots of positive things to say about homeschool!) So I think if you "know" that you cannot meet your son's needs very well at home right now, you will probably feel less guilty and burdened if you try the school option for now knowing that you can make changes over time. However, if other people's comments are the real source of these doubts, you should probably tune out their voices and stick with your original plans.
