Math suggestions for 2nd grader/ almost 7 yo girl?

So, if you use a math curriculum which one do you use and why? I am not picky as to secular or non-secular, but I would just like something fun and to the point. We have used Abeka in the past and it taught her well, but it had SO much busy work and junk-(for lack of a better description).

So basically if you can recommend a curriculum that is enjoyable but concise as well, I would love to hear suggestions.

Also if you have used a particular curriculum and found it to be very much the opposite of what I am searching for please give me that input as well. I do not want to buy something thinking it might work and find myself in the "Abeka boat" again.

If you want fun try Peggy Kay's Games for Math. We use it alot around here.

We use math u see. I wouldn't say it is "fun" but my kids don't dislike it. It is very straight forward. No messing around, no fancy artwork. Just the math. It uses blocks but honestly I haven't used them yet and we are working through our third level of it. My kids have never been interested in them. Each "chapter", "unit" (whatever they are called) has 6 pages and 1 test (Primer doesn't have tests). The first three pages are new material and the next three are cumulative review. If something is moving to slowly it is easy to skip ahead. It would be equally easy to create a few additional problems if more review was needed. I like it because algebraic (sp?) concepts and skip counting are introduced early on. It also covers time and money. I have heard that some programs skip those. It is a pretty inexpensive program. We don't purchase the teacher's manual or DVDs, just the student texts which are 20 dollars each and they have 30 units, so it is good for the whole year. I am pretty sure you can request a demo DVD from their website.

there is a sticky about what everyone uses and why at the top of the page. we use making math meaningful and love it. very heavy on word problems and manipulative. has a script for parents. sometimes we use it sometimes we don't.

We like Saxon math. I'm horrible at math and the teacher's manual is scripted, lol.

We like Singapore Primary Math. Really no busy work. Some fun exercises, but not so much "fun" and visual interest that it distracts from the math. My 7yo has really enjoyed it so far. She started with 2A and is finishing 3B right now. My elder kids started around the same level and are at level 5A and Secondary 2. Overall I think it's a great program for promoting "mathematical thinking" and mental math facility. It's probably not a good choice for kids and parents who struggle with math, but otherwise I think it's excellent.
