low supply???

My DD is 7 weeks old and I'm having doubts about my milk supply. Sometimes she'll nurse from boths sides and still seem hungry, or she'll want to nurse again an hour later. I'm not sure if shes actually not getting enough, going thru a growth spurt, or if I'm not understanding what shes crying for, but its been going on for about a week (but doesn't happen with every feeding). I also noticed that on the rare occasion that I pump, normally I can only get out about 2 ounces (from one breast, 3-4 hours since that breast has been used), and I hear some ladies talking about getting 8 ounces. DD seems to be peeing and pooing a normal amount tho. She also started out at 7-1 and now weighs 10-14. So am I just being silly, or what?? :

It osunds to me like you aren't having a supply issue. Between the good diapers and the weight gain, those both point to enough supply. There may be another answer though--gasy, food sensitivity, growth spurt (they usually have one around 6 weeks). I would say teeth, but it is a bit early. Just continue to offer it when she seems hungry.

Don't worry about the pumping thing. 2 ounces from one side is good. I could only ever get (max) 1/4 ounce. The pumping is not indicitive of what you are producing. Some women can pump a lot, some not so much. It isn't a sign of your production.

Keep up the good work Mama! If you are worried, eat some oatmeal everyday.

You are doing just fine!!! With that weight gain, be assured that you dc is getting enough. And I also think that getting that amount pumping is A LOT. You don't have to worry!!! Babe may be experiencing a growth spurt. I remember that time, too, and nursing every hour is normal for that time. Check out www.kellymom.com. It talks about how the 6-8week time is generally when fussiness peaks. So, it could be that you are doing everything just fine and babe is just experiencing this fussy stage. I remember that it was about 7 weeks when my ds starting needing more stimulus as he was much more alert at that time. A baby mirror with black and white border was his favorite. He also loved walks. He wasn't so happy with just sleeping and nursing anymore. Good luck. Sounds like you are doing great.

Perfectly normal! You're doing great. Just keep nursing.

All I can say is learn from me. Don't worry about not producing enough milk or you won't produce enough milk. There is a mind body connection. Have you tried consulting a lactation specialist? Think positively and don't worry about what other people are telling you or you'll talk yourself out of breastfeeding. Be positive. You are a great person for wanting to give your baby the best. Just remember that. Keep going!
