So I just went to the grocery store...

And Dh & the kids & I were walking and shopping. I hear a child crying, it sounded like maybe 2, 3 or so years old (You kind of notice a different pitch when babies/toddlers cry.) So I tell the kids "Oh somebody isn't happy!" and just as I say that, the child cries "I don't want you anymoreeeeeee mommy!" and the mother said "Well I don't care because I don't F$#@!@# want you anymore either!" I was just like

I just couldn't believe what I just heard-I started to walk towards the screaming because I was going to say something, but I couldn't find which Isle they were in, and by the time I saw anyone who had kids, nobody was crying or screaming.

I just don't understand the reasoning behind this I guess. Way to make your kid feel loved woman!

There is no reasoning behind this. That mother is more of a child than her baby is.

I bet there wasn't too much reasoning behind it. Probably she was having a really hard time, and her kid telling her they didn't want her just drove her over the edge. Especially since she threw the profanity in there. I hope they're all okay.

So, so sad.

That is so sad! The edge is somewhere to step back from not jump off of with both feet. She's the mama and has a responsibility to love her child unconditionally, not join in on the behavior of a toddler.

Wow

Geezy Mo! She must have been having a rough day...

Here's hopin' she calms down and that little tirade was the first, last and only time she says something that hurtful she her child.

That is sad. That sounds like a mom who has had a really bad day (or week...or month..).

Before I had children, I was in a store with my mom and some woman was talking kind of rough to her kids and I got all "Well why HAVE kids if that's how you're going to treat them" and my mom kind of gave me a little talking to. Essentially she said, I hope you and your kids can live up to those high standards of yours and that none of your difficult mom moments happen in public. Ouch. I certainly hope I'm never down to cursing at my child, but there are moments even now when I think, "hey kid, this isn't exactly all sunshine and lollypops for me either."

My BIL's ex-wife use to say that to their daughter all the time. He finally got smart & recorded her, and now he has full custody.

Yeah that. And I'll add hope that the reason the op didn't hear anymore crying is that the momma picked that sweet baby up and snuggled her close, apologizing, and promising to herself to never lose it and say something like that again.

How awful! I sincerely hope that that was just a really, really bad moment and that all is well afterward. Like others were saying, there may be a whole other side that we didn't see. Doesn't excuse it though, using profanity with a child is a bit extreme, in my opinion.

When my kids say stuff like that to me, I've trained myself to respon with "I love you" or "I'm sorry you feel that way but I love you so much and this is why I've made X decision". It's up to that adult to remain in control when the child loses control. If the adult gets out of control, the kid can feel lost and without someone mature they can go too. That said...we all have our moments..nobody is perfect.
