The only thing I take exception to is the remark that early puberty is due to IMPROVED nutrition. I think it's poorer nutrition.

That is ridiculous. Rather than prevent them from ever having a nursing experience or sexual pleasure from their breasts, why not try parental supervision, good guidance, and teaching self-defense?

I thought people in other countries were a little more enlightened than ours. They make clay breast-shapes for daughters to pretend they're nursing. Seems it isn't so in _all_ places.

Actually what i have read is that improved nutrition due to the high levels of hormones in the food provided, especially poultry have resulted in earlt onset of puberty. Little girls as young as 5 were developing and menstruating in some parts of Mexico because the chickens they were given had been dosed with high amounts of hormones to make them mature quicker.

My thoughts are that while educatign the mother's on the dangers why is there so rarely tlak abtuo edcuatign the men and boys not to RAPE these young women??? If a mother has to scar her daught to prevent her from getting raped what is the alternative. her getting raped without scars?

I mourn for all the women and daughters who have had this horrid practice performed on them.. and for every young girl who will be raped yet sparred being mutilated by her mother.

What a horrific story. I have never heard about this before. That makes me so sad for those poor girls.
It galls me to no end that cultures will choose to hrt the victoms instead of teach people (in this case men and boys) to treat people better. Apparently it is easier to mutilate a girls breasts than it is to teach men to keep their freakin hands off women unless it is asked to be there. :
