LPD & Clomid

Thread Starter
HI ladies,
I am currently waiting for this "cycle" to be over to start clomid. I had a m/c a little over a week ago, and I'm still bleeding... So I have to wait till I start my next real cycle and then get started on clomid.
I have hypothyroidism and high prolactin (prolactinoma) - so I already take meds for both of those and they have been in the good range for almost a year now. We got pregnant on our 2nd cycle trying, but the baby wouldn't develop, and eventually the sac got reabsorbed.
My RE and I agree that it was probably due to LPD - since mine are usually 9 days, but my temps start dropping on 6dpo.
I was supposed to starte seeing the RE for the clomid/prog. stuff to fix the LPD when I found out I was pregnant already - the day of the appt. I found out. So I haven't actually had a real RE appt. with him yet. Just prenatal appts. He tried to get the progesterone up (since it was only 2.6 they day I found out I was pregnant) It brought up the progesterone levels (with natural supps.) but the pregnancy couldn't survive.
I am VERY ready to start trying to fix this - do any of you know about this treatment??? I can't take Vitex since I have the prolactin problem already, so I think Clomid might be the thing...
Thanks!

I am so sorry about your miscarriage.

Your circumstances sound exactly like mine-- I got pg on the second try(last month), and m/c at about five weeks. When they tested my prog levels, they were at 5, four weeks into the pregnancy. I started supplementation at that point too, but it was too late.

Have you asked the doctor about starting your progesterone supplementation earlier for this next cycle? I know some doctors will start it the day you ovulate, and mine will be testing 7 days later and then possibly starting supplementation based on that. However, he was sure to point out that the low progesterone could have been a result of the inviability of the pregnancy, not a LPD. I don't temp, but... just throwing that out there.

I wish I had an answer to your question.... I wish you all the luck in the world.

Clomid is supposed to help with LPD, if the LPD is due to low progesterone production in the LP. Here is a pretty good link on LPD. There is also an older thread on LPD on this board, do a search for LPD. I know I have a post or two in there, if you want to try searching on my username.

If you haven't tried anything yet, I'd suggest working with your doctor on whether Clomid plus an HCG injection to trigger ovulation might help. Both help the ovaries produce more progesterone in the LP. Also, of course do some progesterone supplementation in the LP. I typically do 200MG Prometrium vaginally 2 x per day. Some doctors do 3 x per day. Some due injections but it is controversial whether injections are more effective. Also injections seem to be more often used for patients who have done IVF or high tech conception methods.

Good luck to you.
