Is anyone using a post-partum doula?

So many questions from me tonight!

I was curious if anyone is now using, is going to use, or has in the past used a post-partum doula. I had one with my DD, but she only came twice, I think, and was free, and all in all not THAT much help.

What are the post-partum doulas helping you with? How much are you paying them? Are they really worth it?

I will be having a doula attend my birth. She will provide support for me during labor and be an advocate for me in order to protect my birth plan while at the hospital. She, my husband, my mother and my daughter will be there. One person must be in charge of watching our daughter, so they most likely will trade off (like if husband has to run home to let the dog out). My doula will also provide postpartum care. I believe that includes emotional support, advicie on healing, and possibly childcare to a limited extent. I'm not sure exactly what is involved in postpartum care with a doula.
She is free because she needs to attend one more birth in order to be certified. I was referred to her by several people I know and trust. From what I hear, around this area, doulas generally are paid around $300 for their services.

I found a free doula this time around, seeing as she still needs another birth to become certified. When she comes after the birth, she will be there for advice, lactation consultation, some light house keeping if I need it, review of the birth and presentation of her version of the birth story and photos she took.

Once she is certified, she will charge $300 which includes a prenatal visit, support during the birth and one post-partum visit.

I would if I didn't have good support from my mom & community.
