wanna talk about drugs? - Page 5

I think all drugs should be legal...why should people be put in jail for hurting only themselves? Obviously if they hurt others or do illegal things while under the influence of any drug, including alcohol, caffiene, whatever, they should face consequences. I grew up with an alcoholic mama and think alcohol is the worst drug out there...I have done lsd, mushrooms, ecstacy, and smoked pot...I love pot and think it could save the world...I do smoke now when I go out and have a night out on the town...I think its ignorance for people to say legalizing drugs would be bad for kids...its the same thing as violence in the media...kids are going to be exposed to it anyways...thats why kids have parents to teach them and guide them...maybe if people weren't so scared of doing illegal drugs kids wouldn't be so tempted to do them...
off topic...do any of you wise mamas think prostitution should be legal?

BTW- does it look like :bf has Chinese eyes?

(Also, no offense to any Chinese folks out there- it's an old term and I don't know of a better one!)

Amy, I bet we could have a whole other 5 page topic on legal prostitution.

Yes. I see no functional difference between paying me for using the organ between my ears, or between my thighs.

Legalize it, tax the crud out of it, use the money from it to support health and education. I hear an echo in here.

Prostitution is already legal in the forms of pornographic movies (women are paid for having sex) and marriage (women trade sex in exchange for housing and spending money, in some types of marriages.)

ANYWAY...

I don't believe the world would necessarily be a better place if everyone took drugs. I am one of those people who should not take certain drugs. Pot often made me violent. I broke into peoples' homes while on LSD and stole their toothbrushes. I am allergic to all the valium-type drugs as they cause me to have psychotic reactions.

The only drugs I have done well with were coffee and mushrooms. Although, I had a really high tolerance to them and my last trip was a half-ounce at a movie theater where I ended barfing on the floor, wetting my pants because I thought if I tried to find the bathroom I would get lost, and getting in trouble for smoking a cigarette in the theater.

Actually, I was also cruel to animals while on mushrooms so it wasn't totally harmless for me.

I'm probably just one of those rare individuals who should not take drugs.

Ok I know you were making a serious point (I agree those who harm others shouldn't be using drugs of any kind... and should really be thinking about whether its a good idea if they are hurting themselves) but I was just curious about why you were stealing toothbrushes? :LOL

Arduinna, I think we will just have to agree to disagree.

I don't see the logic in making yet more mind altering substances legal when we cannot stop people from DUI while using the legal ones.

Adding more and making them even easier to obtain and abuse will not certainly not decrease the problem.

If it was done like in NV, where the legal ones have to be tested regularly... then I'd not have much problem with legalizing prostitution, but that really is a whole 'nother topic.

Meiri I can agree to disagree :-)

ABSOLUTELY do not use them.

ABSOULTELY have tried all of them except heroin.

ABSOLUTELY believe marijuana (and a few others that I used to like) should be legal.

Re: stealing toothbrushes

I think it was just one of those things that sounds like a good idea when you're on drugs. I also stole a board, ice cream, a cassette tape, and a toy out of their fishtank. This was while I was at a party and just started wandering around. I kept bringing the stuff to the party upstairs and they realized what was going on, so they gathered it all together and woke up the other people, explained what was going on, and gave it all back.

I hear LSD is a spiritual experience for many people, but not for me.

nteresting, tough question, about legalization.
i have a different take on drugs since developing a meditation practice. buddhism eschews them and i now think of drug usage primarily as a way to escape psychic/existential/emotional pain that should instead be felt and explored with curiosity.
(that said, i still have a glass of wine or beer some evenings, and in college and through my 20s i was an occasional pot smoker. tried coke 2-3 times but was frightened by how strong a pull it had and avoided it. i've always been curious about the psychedelics but afraid to lose control to that extent.)
i definitely agree with decriminalization, but then again, i think our entire criminal justice system is off-base, mistaking most crime as the problem instead of a symptom of deeper pain/dysfunction, but that's another post.
i'm not sure how i feel about legalizing though. i think the harder it is to get, the better. i think the way we raise kids and the socioeconomic ills we have in this society create so much pain to be numbed, that it's better not to have easy access to drugs.
and yet, if i weren't a mom, i'd probably still smoke pot from time to time. i liked it. heck, my vipassana meditation teacher admits to having kicked a serious pot addiction, and i'm almost certain he did psychedelics as well.
i will probably tell my kids, if they ask, about my experiences with drugs, with a warning to watch how drugs affect them and to be very careful if they are going to experiment.
fwiw,
susan

HA, just thinking about the state of the world and the fact the GWB is still in office is enough to make anyone want to do drugs, pass the doobie
post #94 of 103
LOL Arduinna....

I have never tried drugs..I am pretty sensitive to meds anyways...and have lots of allergy problems...so there was really not much point when my allergy meds made me pretty stoned, I hated that feeling so much I never bothered trying anything else...
well, not to promote drug use (as I said in a previous post I don't use anymore except cyberly LOL) But pot never gave me that amped feeling you get from antihistime/allergy type meds. I hate that speedy wired feeling.

a nice relaxing calm works for me

since the activism party got started again, thought I would bump this one.

anyone else want to share????

Q for you all: For those that partake, what are you teaching your kids about drugs.
Alright, completely OT, but:
Hilary, your sig. nearly made me spit coffee all over my computer. Here I sit, eyes half closed, and I looked and read... then re-read... then re-read again... I was like, what in God's name IS THIS???
Oh, yes, what we are teaching kids about drugs... hard call. I guess, firstly, distinguishing that there are ENORMOUS differences between different types of drugs. Basically, my kids will know that D.A.R.E. is a complete, total load of crap and that pot and heroin are NOT the same thing. Not even close. They will understand the truth and propaganda behind drugs... they will know exactly what each one does does the mind, body and soul. Ultimately, it is up to them. I think some trips to some heroin/crack/cocaine detox facilities would do wonders for a good drug education

I totally agree with candiland...and I also plan on teaching my dd about all of the facts about legal drugs like alcohol and cigarettes...just because its legal doesn't mean its better than some of the illegal ones...I feel the opposite...I would much rather smoke a joint at a concert than get drunk and smoke a cigarette...and its my desicion...it shouldn't be up to someone else to decide what I put in my own body...
I've never done any illegal drugs, not even once.

I do support the legalization of hemp and think it should be legal to grow pot for yourself. If we're going to have illegal plants, let's at least outlaw invasive species like kudzu before we outlaw pot.
Even those who don't partake have to do mucho education with our kids (my dh drinks occasionally)...................

I come from a long, long line of addicts. I do not think it is a strictly environmental thing; it is also genetic.
