books about sex for preteens

Does anyone have a favorite book that discusses changing bodies/sex etc.?

I was raised so differently from the way I am raising my kids and I think a good, honest book from a liberal point of view would be helpful to my kids.

Thanks!

Care and Keeping of You

The American Girl book The Care and Keeping of You is a great book to start with for girls between the ages of 8 and 12. Its all about many aspects of their changing bodies without the full on sex info. Baby steps... one thing at a time.

Everything you NEVER wanted your Kids to know about SEX but were afraid they'd ask by Justin Richardson and Mark A Schuster

I think that What's Happening to My Body? Book for Girls: The New Growing-Up Guide for Parents and Daughters is really good, but it may be a little advanced for your DC (there is a version for boys to... ) depending on age. I'd say 11 and up probably. I really like how they mention cloth pads and menstrual cups in the period section, along with disposables and tampons.

I bought a copy of Deal With It! for my stepDD about a year ago, intending to give it to her when she started her cycles, but haven't yet. If she were my DD, or if I'd been in her life sooner, I totally would, though. It's very, very, open and full of information. It's also very non-judgmental, so it's hard for me to decide what age to give it.

There are parts that seem TMI for 12 yo's, but then I remember a girl 3 yrs younger than me got preg. in 7th grade, so I tend to think better for them to know too much than not enough.

It's Perfectly Normal is a great book. It's non-threatening, lighthearted, but accurate and thorough.

I like these two books. We are liberal too and they are a good fit for us. Lots of real information presented in a straight forward manner and I like that there is a positive treatment of homosexuality.

It is so Amazing (first book)

: This is a great book. It's really straightforward and engaging. It's written in such a way that my ds isn't uncomfortable talking about the book afterwards.
