Every time I have tried this before I cannot get the legs even. I do have a sewing machine and I can hem. That'a about all I can do with the machine though. Anyhow, dh has a pair of pants that Have worn at the knee so I want to just cut them about an inch above the hole and make a pair of shorts out of them. I know there has to be an easy way to do this that I am just not aware of.

is it the cutting part or the hemming part that is the problem?

i fold pants in half, cut them and then measure each side with a measuring tape.

then i iron what i want to hem, measure again.
sew.
(and if i'm being really anal I measure again, but usually I say "good enough")

I think it is all of it! I hung them on my clothes line and cut them earlier so now I just have to hem them. Hopefully I can get it even or at least close to even. I hate throwing away clothes!
