losing willpower to eat healthy...

so, about 2 months ago, my blood sugar was a little high, so to avoid going the whole GD route, I drastically cut back on my refined sugar and white flour etc.

I was good for so long, but now (a week before my due date) I'm starting to crumble...

The change in my diet was really good for me, it kept me from gaining a lot of weight during the pregnancy and (hopefully!) from having a BIG baby (DH is over 300 lbs, and I'm 5'2" ). Not to mention that when I took a good look at my diet, I realized how bad it really was!

Anyhoo, just looking for some support to stop eating the cookies, and go back to eating my veggies...I do still eat my oatmeal for breakfast every day (with cheese and hot sauce, yes, I'm odd)

g'night, time for bed!

OOOOOOH I can really relate! I cut out refined sugars on my own about two or three months ago, mostly because I felt I couldn't eat them if I was expecting my two year old not to. I ended up LOSING weight in my pregnancy - not much to be worried or anything, but that was shocking to me nonetheless. anyway, for me it's not so much the no sugar part as it is the sticking to my 100 grams of protein, eating one to two eggs each day, spinach, etc. it's the lack of choices that bugs me so much and since my due date is also 1 week away, i feel I'm losing motivation to keep it up. every night I just pray it's the night I go into labor!

All i can offer for motivation is to remember that your baby is growing the most right now, the brain is developing and it obviously needs to stay inside for a little longer to help it get ready to come out. it's depending on us to stay the course and help it with the last preparations for birth! most of that will come from what we put in our bodies. So you can do it! Remember that you'll feel better in labor if you eat right. FOOD IS MEDICINE! And you can set that goal of staying the course until your baby is born and then give yourself a reward of some kind - a treat you've been so disciplined in avoiding. I hope that helps! Good luck! It sure helps me knowing I'm not the only one having trouble with the last week of this journey!

I am so right there with you sister!!! For like three days straight I have eaten nothing but crap! Through this whole pregnancy I have eaten a very clean, healthy, nearly vegan diet. Today we went to Mustard's Last Stand and I got a veggie dog with the works (not too bad there), and an order of chili cheese fries (vegan chili) doused in ketchup and hot relish. Then to top if off I had an ice cream cone!!! So much for vegan. Blech. I'm not even going to tell you about the other two days. I need to jump back on the wagon. My body needs healthy food - not crap!

Just ate 2 servings of freshly made blackberry (picked from our yard) cobbler and vanilla ice cream. Yup, I need to get back on the wagon, too!

I'm having a real problem avoiding the Cold Stone Creamery around the corner from me. It's just been so long, and I'm so bored of the things I eat, and I need a little sweet cream (with added chocolate shavings) comfort now and then.

I, too, am sucking in the food department this week. I'd been eating good, solid meals, and today I've degenerated to eating several popsicles, two chocolate-chip cookies, and leftover pizza.

Sigh.

And it does make me feel physically crappy. So I need to knock this crap OFF.

thank you mamas! I feel much better now, it's so nice to check this board in the morning

It does seem like ice cream is the biggest temptation! weekends I think are hardest because during the week I'm on more of a schedule.

alright, good luck to everyone on their path to eating redemption

Okay, I see each and every one of you your ice cream and popsicles, and I raise you : AN ENTIRE BOX OF LUCKY CHARMS IN 2 DAYS : .

I am so ashamed. I guess my baby will be magically delicious.

And no, you probably couldn't pay me to eat a vegetable right now. But for some reason, this Lucky Charms thing is the strongest craving i've had in 9 months. Silly tadpole!

Yeah, but I am a notorious junk food junkie...so I have just gone back to my old ways. I can't help it, I have lost my drive to behave. ANd the warm weather makes me want icecream and pops!

frosted brown cinnamon POPTARTS. Can you say refined sugar AND trans fats?!?!?! WTF?

Ramen. The worst stuff for me, but it was such a comfort in the (pukey) first trimester, and it tastes really good right now.

Luckily, it's all balanced out by tomatoes at every meal. Literally.... they are taking over my house. Gotta love tomato season.

I am doing the same thing! My problem has been parties and other special events, where I have to eat the cake and ice cream (don't I?!?!) and then we had tons of cake left over from the baby party that I, of course, couldn't let go to waste!

DD #1 was a big babe, almost 10 lbs. I KNOW I can birth big babes, I just don't necessarily WANT to, KWIM?

I am going to do my very, very best to do good the rest of the pregnancy, then I'll pig out!

Oh, and to the PP who lived near a Cold Stone Creamery-- that really ought to be illegal in pregnancy! I would be a goner

I just wish I lived near a Cold Stone Creamery...

I would kill to live by a Cold Stone Creamery...or a Maggie Moo's...we do have a really amazing local place though, so I can't complain too hard.

Yeah, I'm all about the junk too. Plus I'm really not super hungry, so I'm mostly noshing on carbs and baby carrots and grape tomatoes, so my heartburn is INSANE. I keep eating these knockoff Twizzlers called Red Vines...yum

i guess i am the odd one about ice cream. i have 2 ben and jerrys pints and another reg size ice cream tub in the freezer....from a while ago...: i like it once in a while but my biggest things are just snacking on choc. covered pretzels, min. candy bars, anything baked thats sweet and then not wanting to cook..... i did this last time too....my excuse...the babys putting on fat alot rigth now!! she needs this extra pudgy stuff so she has those cute little cheeks!!

To the OP who quit refined sugar...ever purchased Jules' organic icecream? it's made with just a few ingredients and sweetened with evaporated cane juice. don't know if that counts for you or not, but it is AMAZING and can satisfy a refined sugar craving. Good luck!

Yes! The heartburn makes me want junk, and the junk gives me heartburn. It's a bad, nasty, icky cycle.

I bought a big bag of popsicles for labor, and half of them are gone already. :

Thanks for the ice cream suggestion Zuri'smom, if I see it in the store I'll give it a try!

A better day today, whole grains, protien and vegetables actually made it into my diet

Hopefully it won't be too much longer until baby comes, but I'd actually like to try to keep up my healthy diet (I was a junk food junkie before this, too, didn't even realize how bad until I really started looking at my diet...)

Good luck all
