dog hair help!

This should have been "help! my floors are disgusting!" This is partly a dog hair problem, some of it may be lack of knowledge. I go to other people's house and don't notice their floor being NEARLY the grime-y-ness mine is!! I sweep (fairly often), but it's still BAD! I also have an army-crawler, which makes it seem worse, too. The dog hair is OUT OF CONTROL (I know, it's summer time, too), I groom our dog often, but it's also bad in the winter. For those w/dogs...how to keep up with the dog hair? how often do you sweep, vac, etc?? I can't keep up!!! It's on everything. I also feel like I have an exceptionally dusty house and wood floors. What do you use, how often? I will x-post this, too, but I have a wool area rug. My little one is constantly sneezing and has a runny nose, and I'm wondering if she's allergic to the dog, the rug, or what?? Any thoughts?

Umm sounds like your are describing MY house. Our dog sheds all year round!! I try to vaccuum/swiffer every 2-3 days. But there is still hair everywhere.

I just figure I do my best. People with pets understand. We recently got one of those Scooba things & it seems to pick up the hair & clean the floor pretty well.

I feel your pain. I have a large dog (70 lbs) and two cats and the hair is awful. I vacumm 2x a week at least but to keep on top of it I really need to do it daily.

When I was living on hard wood floors with two big dogs (1 was a huge shedder), I used Swiffers. I swiffered about twice a week, but I could have done it more. I liked it cause it was easy, didn't use electricity, I could get under furniture, and it really picked up the hair, dust, fuzz, etc.
My grandma had suggested, to save money on swiffer replacement cloths, to use a damp rag and attach it the same way. I tried that a couple times, and it worked okay.

Yeah...I have the swiffer thing. Guess I just need to do it MORE OFTEN!! UGH. Housecleaning is not my forte!! I've thought about the wet rag thing, but thought it might be streaky. I've heard of using reused dryer sheets (not quite big enough) and we've gone to using dryer balls. Guess I'll keep spending $$ on the swiffer sheets. I also have the wet-jet and I just had my dh cut a hole in the top of the solution container. I'm going to attempt to fill it with my own mix of vinegar and water (maybe some TTO) and see if I can stop spending $$ on their own solution.

Even without dogs, I find the need to vacuum daily. And the kids only eat in the kitchen LOL. When I had two dogs though, same thing. I bought a good powerful vacuum and used it just about every day. Only way to keep up with it, IMO. (we had carpets)

As for the Wet Jet, I too cut off the lid so it could be screwed on and off. And I've had the same bottle for over 2 years. I LOVE IT!!! I mop our kitchen every other day mostly, bc the kids get it really sticky really fast. We just got a dog though and I must say it stays cleaner now that she's here LOL!!!

We have a large dog, a rabbit and 3 kids (plus all of their friends that seem to live here!). I vacuum every single day. I am not a neat-freak, but if I don't vacuum everyday the floors get way out of hand. The animal hair tumble weeds rolling across the floor drive me nuts!

Does the swiffer wet jet work better than the swiffer wet pads? I have a large, black dog and just moved into a house with white vinyl in the kitchen. The kitchen sliding door is the only access to the backyard so you can imagine that I not only have black fur on the floor but also paw and foot prints, dirt, and food dirt. Yesterday, I got some swiffer wet pads but it took 4 to clean a small kitchen floor. And, that was after sweeping! I like the swiffer dry cloths for every day fur pickup, but it would be too expensive to count on the wet pads for wet cleaning. 4 a day would cost too much.

I do like the idea of the wet jet cleaner with my own cleaning solution. And, I do sometimes use my own homemade dry cloths. I cut up old kitchen towels. But, they do not pick up as well as the swiffer. Not even close. But, they are ok if you are out of dry cloths.

Okay, I swiffer every single day at least once but I put giant strips of velcro on either side of the top. I cut microfiber clothes into 3rds to fit onto the velcro--you only need one side of the velcro. So, I swiffer up the junk, shake it well outside and then dump it in the utility sink for a load of laundry.
