Dad, cancer and weight loss-update!

Well, good news so far.....
I made beef bone broth for Dad this weekend (for those that don't recall, he's got stage IV neuroendocrine cancer and can't keep much down-he's lost 40 pounds off an already lean frame and has a tremendous amount of nausea-uncontrolled by RX drugs) and he kept it down! I'm hoping that the gelatin will do his gut good in addition to the minerals...

He can't tolerate any fruits or veggies in any form-even avocados-he says they are too acidic and cause tremendous pain-but dairy, in any form-cheese, milk, cream, butter, (ice cream imagine that) etc. he can do, so he does lots! (Seems weird to me, since the tumors are all centered in his liver, that fat is what he tolerates best. But who cares, as long as it stays down!)

As of last Sunday, he hadn't thrown up for two days. (I didn't get a chance to talk to mom yesterday, and they're off to the oncologist again today). It's a step in the right direction, at least. Hopefully, we're on the track back to health for him...

Between me and my mother pushing pills potions and other stuff (read: at him, he really doesn't have any choice but to get better...

I just wanted to say thanks again, too, to everyone who suggested the different things to poke down his gullet...I haven't had a chance to get any yogurt to get whey to make anything lacto fermented (the last time I did that it was a disaster, so we'll get brave again shortly and hope it works )

I feel for you. My dad has stage IV esophageal cancer, but it has also spread to his liver and lymph nodes. While he was having radiation treatment, and during chemotherapy, he loses his appetite, gets mouth sores, and has trouble keeping things down, too. He rejected the bone broths my mother made, and finds fruit and vegetables to taste terrible. But as with your dad, he does great on dairy. Another Weston Price member told me raw cream is really good for cancer patients. My mom now feeds him ice cream, whole milk, and a lot of smoothies. She makes them with yogurt, so he gets the good bacteria for his gut. He can eat eggs, too, so I give them lots of eggs from my best friend's backyard, TRULY pastured chickens. They love them. It's interesting that dairy seems to be the most tolerated food for my dad as well as yours. They don't have access to raw dairy in their state (I mean, there are some sources, but not in stores, and they aren't interested in chasing that down), but they do get pasteurized (NOT ultra-pasteurized) organic milk, non-homogenized when they can find it.

Hope your dad continues to improve!

Ann

I'm glad he's doing a little bit better.
