I have a very old floor lamp with a very ugly lampshade that I want to redecorate (shape is fine, I just hate canvas material it is covered with). The lamp is intended for baby's room, but I do not want to make it too baby-like, more kid-like. And it is for a boy, so cute feathers, frindges etc are not going to work. Anyone did a recovering project like this? Any ideas? Any directions on how to do it?

I've always enjoyed a white shade with a little bit of colored braid on the top and bottom. Just hot glue it on. You could use a dark color like blue or a bright like red. There might even be some narrow ribbons at the store they you could use. They might have a fun little boy print on them like trucks or different balls or something. Or you could get some grosgrain and paint the alphabet on it. I'm really partial to bright light and white lampshades, but they can be dressed up nicely. You can also put wrapping paper around a shade if you're set on changing what you have.
