Hi everybody,

First of all, thanks for all your help and encouragement. You are such wonderful resources and have really kept my spirits up when other people just don't understand why I wouldn't want to just give up and start him on formula from a bottle.

We just got back from the LC. She says he's got a great latch and she saw him sucking and swallowing too. She weighed him before and after and he really only gained an ounce. What she figured out the problem was is that after the initial easy flow of milk, he's not sucking hard enough to get more. So she gave me a Haberman feeder to help him to learn to suck harder. She also let me take home a Lactina to try to get better stim for my breasts. So now the plan is to nurse, feed him with the Haberman, then pump to get more milk to feed him and to increase my supply and repeat that every 3hours. She said it will take a couple days to see a difference so we'll see how it's going by Friday. She did say that I may have to give him a little formula (only 1/2oz) if I can't get an oz of my milk to feed him these first couple days. I'm still torn about that, but I can't keep letting him not eat enough.
Thanks again mommas!

oh, good! I'm glad you got some advice. Have you looked into the herbal things you can do to increase supply? I never used any myself, but this tea is supposed to be amazing.

I hope that her suggestions have Ian gaining weight and helping him feed better.

I also wanted to mention Fenugreek again, it's an herbal. I used it with my first ds when I was pumping. Here's a link to a great resource called KellyMom for herbs to increase milk supply...

I would consider herbals, my main concern (although it sounds bad) is taking capsules. I have an awful time swallowing pills of any kind (bc is the only one I could ever get down). I have to look into the teas or tinctures.

Oh, I didn't realize that and fenugreek can require many pills. Keep us updated!

Just another update. Ian has gained 3 oz. Dr is still freaking out on me but I feel ok with it. We are going for another weight check on Friday to make sure he's still gaining. I started thinking about it and if the avg weight gain is .5-1 oz a day, 3 oz since Weds isn't that bad. My goal is to have him still gain weight without the supplements. But first I have to get him to gain wt at all.

I'm glad he's gaining - and I'm glad you feel okay with it. He's gaining after all - and you have a great plan in action. Sorry this hasn't been easy for you

He gained another 3oz!!! He's only 2 shy of the 6lb 14oz he was born at. He has grown a whole inch though! Doc gave me higher calorie formula but Ian ended up spitting some of it up and I can feel his little tummy bubbling now a few hours later. Not sure what I'm going to do about it. Definately no more today.
