Wearing your baby?

I'm interested in knowing what's working for everybody.

I have a Hotsling, a stretchy ring sling, and a Babyhawk Mei Tai. I like them all for different things. The MT is my favorite, though, and if I could only have one that's what I'd choose. Right now I'm only using the newborn front carry.

My guy is just two weeks old, so he's still pretty floppy. When do other carries become good choices? I'm really interested in back carrying, but I don't know when to try it.

What's working for you? And mamas with two or three little ones running around, does wearing your wee one simplify things?

So far I've just used my Maya Wrap. I love how snug you can get them in it and she sleeps so well bundled up in the front newborn carry. I have a Mei Tai a friend made for my baby gift, but she just seems so small to carry in it. I may try it soon, though. I'd really like to try a Moby Wrap with this baby. I love babywearing and since this is probably our last one, I have to feed my addiction this time

so far the Kozy and the Moby are the favorites for the little guy in this house. the hotsling is ok-he goes right to sleep-but to me it looks like it's smashing his brain so it makes me nervous
i think for back carries you have to wait til at least 4mo so they have the good head/neck support and i guess around that time it's ok for their legs not to be in the froggy position, too?

ive got a maya wrap ring sling, a solarveil adjustable pouch, and a mei tei style carrier. i use the ring sling around the house, and the pouch when out (because i live in fl lol!!!! its HOT). ive only used the MT once or twice, its kind of a pita to get her in & out.

i dont know what i would do without my slings. seriously.

We have a pouch (peanut shell) and a wrap (moby wrap). She doesn't dig the pouch all that often, and I can't figure out why. I think she likes her legs being free and right now with the chest hold and the newborn hold, she is NOT digging having her legs in their and will cry and cry until you just lift her slightly out of it. So I am pretty sure it will get used more when she can sit on my hip in it.

She LOVES LOVES LOVES the moby....most of the time. She loves it when she loves it, and hates it when she hates it. I need to make a more conceous (that is SO not how you spell that word) effort to get her in them more often so she can get used to it. I sorta hate how much effort it takes to get ME in and out of the moby. I want to invest in a good ring sling too. There is a woman at the Olympia Farmers Market near me that sells tie dyed ring slings....mmm that would be nice.....

I have a Mei Tai, homemade moby style wrap, and a lucky baby pouch sling.

So far I despise the Mei Tai. It doesn't fit me right and is really gappy near the head, I may just sell it to a friend who is interested and wait to get another one when he is bigger.

I use the moby at home all the time to do things around the house. He loves it when he is in the right mood for it.

I use the pouch when I go out because it is so easy to pop on and put the baby in and out of. So far I've had to take him out a few times at the grocery store and I would have been screwed if I had him in the moby. That thing is difficult to undo with a baby in it! He doesn't love the pouch but if he is sleepy (which he usually is after a car ride) he will do ok in it.

I think I want to get a ring sling because they seem to be super versatile.

While we have an assortment of carriers (2 Hotslings, 3 ring slings, 2 Baby Bjorns, an Ergo), we really only use the Hotslings and Bjorns consistently. My husband has actually been seen wearing my nice flowery Hotsling, too, but usually prefers the Bjorn (looks a little more manly, you know! =)). I know I could probably get the infant insert for the Ergo, since I love that one so much, but the price seems rather steep for such a short period of time it would be used (on top of the ridiculous price I paid for the thing!). Eli doesn't mind the pouch sling, but Sam only will go in it if he's really tired. I think he doesn't like how it confines him, and I think it looks rather uncomfortable, too. My ring slings and MT's I've tried are just too putzy right now. They will probably come in handy later, though. BTW, my daughter has begged to go in the Hotsling, too, when one of the babies are not in it and it still works great for her in a hip-carry! Have tried tandem slinging a couple of times, and honestly, while it calms them down with all of the confusion of getting them in and out, it is VERY uncomfortable for the wearer and still doesn't allow you to do a whole lot.

I have 2 ring slings and a Moby. Kasen tolerates the sling (I just don't feel comfortable with it yet), but we both LOVE the Moby. My only concern is that I feel like my posture is all out of whack when I'm wearing either one. Will that get better as my ab muscles heal, or am I doing something wrong?

I have a maya wrap and a bjorn - I used both with #1 so far have only used the bjorn for going out with #2

I have 2 Hotslings, a homemade pouch (I couldn't resist the fabric!), 3 Wise Woman slings, 2 mei tais and one onbuhimo, with 2 more onbus on the way. : DS practically lived in either a Hotsling or WW sling until he was a year old, he loved them. DD will go in them but she doesn't like the cradle hold as much as DS did, she prefers to be upright. So, the main things we are using right now are the MTs and onbus. I prefer the onbus, which is why I have 2 more coming.

I borrowed a wrap from a friend but haven't used it too much, I'm just not feeling the wrap love.

we have a homemade reversible pouch (we used the sleepingbaby.net instructions) and a homemade wrap similar to a moby. (dh made them both! )

we used the pouch to take ds home from the hospital on the streetcar on day 3 of his life, and he never fit into it after that. dh just extended it this weekend by sewing another panel into it, and i wore ds in it this afternoon. i walked across the street to visit the neighbours ... ds was nursing the whole time! i love it.

the wrap is great for walking around. i've worn him in it around the house, walked to the grocery store and video rental, etc., but i've been having trouble figuring out how to move him smoothly from a carrying position to a nursing position and back. i did finally manage to get him from one to the other, but couldn't get him back afterwards. it's a learning process.

I have two I use all the time, one is a mayawrap and the other is a homemade mayawrap out of solarveil. I have a pouch, but dd hates it, ds loved it, but she just doesn't like the cradle hold. She prefers to be upright and the maya does that perfectly. Dh doesn't like to use the slings but will use the backpack when she is old enough!

I really like them! DS (23 months) also loves to be worn on my back with it, he gets excited when he sees me pull it out! It's also DH's favorite carrier.

I have Mei Tai style carrier - two of them, one small a nd one larger. And lucky baby sling - which I HATE. I had it custom made and I hate it. So does my DS. I just cant' figure slings out.
I am using MT EVERY day, all the time. I LOVE it. The weight is evenly distributed and I just love it. So does DS.
For those who say it's too baggy, too big for your baby - try to roll the bottom once or twice before you tie it around your waist. That will make the body of the carrier shorter and baby won't be lost in it.

I bought a BabyHawk and I LOOOOOVVE it. It's easy to use, and once he's in it I almost forget I've got him on. And they're so pretty : the straps are very lightly padded, just enough to make them comfy but not enought to make them bulky. Of the 4 carriers I have, if I had to choose just one to keep it would be this one. I also think it will be the most versatile overall.

I'm using my hotsling some too, but it's not as comfy and I can't seem to get all the weight distributed well. And like fenwickmama said, it looks like it's crushing his head. I'm definitely not as free to move as I am with the BabyHawk. Am I doing something wrong? Any tips or suggestions??
