Ok, I just finished Dragon's Kin (cowritten by Todd and Anne) it was ok.
I also finished Dragon's blood which I thought was better, and was suprised by that because it is Todd by himself.. more scifi than I usually read, reminded me of the prequel to the dragonrider series because it has Wind Blossom and others in it.. kind of goes back and forth between characters but still a good read! I might recommend it for book approval at my school.

Off to find Dragon's fire!

I like her stuff.

I've read all of the Freedom series, most of the Rowan/Damia ones. Actually I think I just have one more to read. I've read most of the Acorna ones, but now I have to read it over so I can read the newer books. And I've only read the Harperhall trilogy of the Pern books. But I'm slowly collecting other Pern books through my grandma and library book sales.

I've read almost all of the "ship" books and I'm reading her "Acorna" series now (only three books in).

I've heard a lot about Dragons of Pern, but that looks like an extensive series, so I'm kinda saving it for later.

Do you love any other Sci-Fi or Fantasy authors in particular?
I never read much from her Sci-Fi series and ship books, but I read all the Dragonriders of Pern when I was in high school. Loved them all. They made we want my very own telepathic dragon to ride and a world to live in like Pern, where arts were strongly encouraged.

My favorites are the Ship series, some of which she only co-authored, and some of which she didn't author at all, IIRC.

That's followed by the Talent series, although it took me 3 tries to read the Tower and the Hive, that last book really didn't live up to the rest of the series, IMO. I really wish there had been more books covering the spread of humankind... they skip from sending off the first colony ship to having lots of colonized planets and we don't get to see any of the stuff in between.

The shape changers were the Petaybee series, and those are hers also. I haven't read the most recent two, but I liked the first 3 in that series. Definitely a bit different than some of her other stuff.

I do love Pern, that's what I started with, but some of the books are better than others, and some of the stories are a bit overdone and predictable. I've actually enjoyed the ones written by Todd so far, he definitely brings a fresh perspective. You can't read them in publishing order though, you really have to follow the storylines. If you search online, there are several sites with suggested reading orders. I really enjoy the MasterHarper story... I believe those start with DragonSinger, DragonSong and DragonDrums.

I liked the first 2 Acorna books, but after the point they found her home planet I haven't really cared for them, and in fact I don't believe I've read the latest 3. I even stopped buying them, since they just sat here unread.

Crystal Singer series is also great, as was the Freedom series. I've liked most of her books, and I've read most of them, I think the Acorna ones were the only ones that I just didn't care to continue with.

I highly recommend checking out used book stores for them. The one I go to has shelves and shelves of McCaffrey, so the prices are pretty low... about $2/book, I think. Which has been nice for those books I had to replace (cover fell off, binding broke, etc.). I actually have a tub in the basement that is just McCaffrey books. I finally had to put them away because they took up 2 full shelves (2 deep), and with them out I'd just keep re-reading them instead of getting somethiing new.

Oh - wish I'd seen this thread a long time ago. I haven't read any of this stuff, but I enjoyed his "Cobra" books.

I don't like Martin very much, and I can't stand Jordan's "Wheel of Time". Those were probably two the series I've had the most people recommend, and they were both a big letdown. I think Martin's stuff is much better written, but he's a little too hardcore for my liking. There have been some high spots, and couple characters I really like (the dwarf, whose name escapes me, may be my favourite), but overall...nope - not my thing.

I like Anne McCaffrey, but tend to find I like her older stuff better. I do like a couple of the later Pern books, but I think she went a little overboard. I haven't read the ones Todd wrote (co-wrote?) - maybe I'll do that. I also loved the original Doona book, and Restoree, which was my introduction to McCaffrey.

I second the poster who referred to Bujold. She's really out there in some way, but I love her style.
