Suedecloth from JoAnn's?

I've been making my diapers with a microfleece topper, but wanted to try suedecloth as wonderoos have worked well for our 8 month old.

However, the suedecloth I used doesn't seem to keep the baby at all dry. I made a pocket and stuffed with a pf, but when I changed him, the suedecloth felt very wet.

Perhaps I have gotten the wrong fabric? Has anyone else sewed with suedecloth from the fabric store? What has been your experience? Did I possibly get the "wrong" fabric?

Thanks.

I've had no problems with the Alova suedecloth from JoAnn's. Is that what you got? I know there's something else with the word "suede" in it right next to the Alova, but I'm blanking out on the name right now....

Now that I think about it, I might have gotten something called "microsuede", which I guess is NOT the same thing. I'll have to look for the alova suedecloth next time.

Glad to know there might have been something I mixed it up with.

Thankyou!

I've used the Alova suede with no problem. It took me awhile to figure out what was the right suede. For me, the Alova looked "cheap" next to the microsuede and other suedes intended for a true suede look. The other thing I did was take one of my SC diapers with me to compare.

I just picked up a couple of yards of the Alova suedecloth at Wal-Mart for $2.79 yd today! They only had earth colors so I picked up some caramel colored. I hope it works!

Yep! I got some Alova really cheap at WM!! I bought a buff/beige color!! Sewed like a dream!! No stretchiness like with Micro.

This has to be almost some sort of "telepathic" posting! I was just about to post a question about the suedecloth at Joann's. I looked at both the alova suede and the micro solid suede cloth. I HATED the alova. It felt creepy to me and I can't imagine using it for my DC. Are there any softer alternatives? It doesn't even have to be suedecloth per se, just a trim dry feel top for my soaker.

I did find white suedecloth at Joann's. They have it over with the halloween costume fabric. It is the same as the other stuff (maybe slightly thicker) but they label it differently so they can sell it for $9.99/yd. It is a purchase to use a coupon with.

how much does the alova suede normally run at joanns? our walmart has a TON of bolts of it for $2.79/yd and i could use the excuse to go into walmart to visit my friend who works in the fabric department if it's worth the cost difference.

I think the Alova feels not so creepy after it was washed.

At Joann's it's $7ish. Also, just FYI the flannel at Joanns is $6-9/yard and at Walmart it's $2.70. I also got some great "super flannel" that's very thick and soft for $2.70
