Waterproofness

I am new to cloth diapering and have been reading through the forum to get help. I bought some fabric at Joann's yesterday that I thought was similar to the Alova suedecloth, except it looked and felt way nicer. I was pouring water on the suedecloth I bought to see how well the water would go through and I also decided to try the water on the mystery fabric. It just repelled the water. I read the sticky about using water to test the fleece and understand that water really isn't a good sub. for actual use. But I was wondering, in general if the fabric repels water would it also repel urine.

In general, if it repels water, it'll repel urine.

However, try washing and drying your fabric first, to remove any sizing and or other foreign 'coatings' and substances, then test again, by putting an absorbant material under it, then putting your water on the fabric you are testing. The absorbant under material should help 'pull' it through if it's going go through at all.

Hope that helps!

Thanks. My mother thinks the fabric is some kind of microsuede. I washed and dried it. It seems to stay pretty waterproof until I really press or pound the water through. Maybe I will just make one with it and then wait and see how it actually works in practice.
