TCOYF - what the heck is going on with my body?

I'm new to this forum. DH and I have been trying to get pregnant for about 7 months since I had a m/c. I'm 40 so the going has been tough.

So I just started tracking last month. I've been inconsistent about getting temperatures everyday because my daugther wakes at odd times so I haven't seen a pattern there. However, I have had a soft cervix & some quality cervical fluid for over a week now. Is it possible for the body to reach a state where it "almost" ovulates and then just hang out there until its time to get a period and then menstruate even though you haven't ovulated?

My period is pretty regular in that it comes at the "right" time every month but I've been concerned about what's going on with my body inbetween periods.

No advice but wanted to post and let you know that I have a hard time with CM. Mine is almost always creamy. I don't have changes in it really. I don't have dry days and if I'm lucky it'll go to eggwhite. BUT the quantity does change and quite a bit. So maybe that is the case with you. Figure out your BIP and then go from there. Sorry if this is of no help. It's tough.

Not sure if this is the right thing to do or good advice but I had a similar problem with my morning wake times. I decided to set my alarm for an extremely early time before I knew I would be woken up. Say about...4:30 or 5...as long as you get at least 3 hrs sleep I think it's ok. Anyway, it was easier to get closer to that time in the morning (with in the half hour should show some king of pattern-if you have one) and then I would just go back to sleep if I didn't need to wake up yet. Do you have the book "Taking Charge of yoour Fertility"? That might help explain your pattern or anovulation.

Also, I did have a few annovulatory cycles, I think. I had surgery and then I wasn't seeing the BBT increase. I showed all of the other signs of o but then I would get my period...early. But I have endo so it could have been due to that or the surgery.

I guess that might not be of any help but you should check out the book if you don't have it.

Is it possible to have an annovulatory cycle(s) and still get your period on time? It seemed, from the book, that most annovulatory cycles were very long, as in you didn't get your period for a long time.

I've been charting for a year (to avoid - and just now started TTC) and I've had two annovulatory cycles over that year and my "period" (annovulatory bleeding) came right "on time."

Yes, it IS possible for your body to gear up to ovulate but not quite make it over the hump. So you can have patches of CM but if you don't have a temp shift, you didn't ovulate.

Are there non-drug ways to promote ovulation? I'm not getting any younger.

Yes there are many.
I suggest you move over to the TTC forum Go to the "One Thread" and jump in on the "40+ trying to conceive thread" as well.

It's very possible to have annovulatory cycles and get your period "right on time". Having a lot of creamy CM doesn't necessarily indicate impending ovulation, it can also signify high levels of estrogen. This is very common in women with PCOS but might also be due to age as well.
