Do you know any adults who were Montessori-educated?

I was recently having a conversation with a friend and we were debating Montessori vs public ed. She is thinking about public education since she knows so many wonderful people who went to public school. And I realized, I don't know ANY adult Montessori-educated people. Does anyone? what were they like and how did they feel about their education?

I know quite a few

each and every one has raved about their education and how wonderful it was. they seem to all be very methodical people...they think before they speak, are considerate of others, and they seem to put a lot of thought into their decisions

I am a public school girl-and my kids are both montessori. I wish I had been exposed to the montessori philosophy as a child

The adult's that I know who were M-educated are:
[*]my sister's dh (attended through elementary)
[*]Two good friends (attended Primary)
[*]One of my coworkers
[*]I've met about 3 people who, when I say I work in M, say "I went to a M school!"

They all seemed to have had a positive experience.
I was public school too - would have liked the freedom and possibility for advancement in M. I would have also loved the music and math materials.

I went when I was 2. My sister was 4, my brother was a newborn and my mom was overwhelmed with me so she sent my, in a taxi, by myself, at age 2. I have a very distinct memory of the taxi ride, by myself, at age 2. She denied this for many years (the alone taxi ride, no car seat I'm sure, it was 1974), then finally said to my sister, "It was just once..."

But I guess that's not really what you meant.

Me!!

I went to Montessori for pre-school and Kindergarten. My college roomate went through 6th grade. FWIW, she was Phi Beta Kappa and Summa at Bowdoin. I loved Montessori. DS is starting preschool there this fall and when I toured the school it all came back - the materials haven't changed! Great memories, and I learned a lot.

On the Barbara Walters ABC-TV Special "The 10 Most Fascinating People Of 2004" Larry Page and Sergey Brin, founders of the popular Internet search engine Google.com, credited their years as Montessori students as a major factor in behind their success. Having been friends since childhood. When Barbara Walters asked if the fact that their parents were college professors was a factor behind their success, they said no, that it was their going to Montessori school where they learned to be self-directed and self-starters. They said that Montessori allowed them to learn to think for themselves and gave them freedom to pursue their own interests.

I went to a Montessori for 3 years of elementary. It was actually just so-so as an experience. It was a small school with much drama among the students, who didn't like who at the moment, etc, and being with the same small pack of kids for so long just seemed to increase the conflict and claustrophobia. Also drama among the teachers and administration as well.

I actually found it very freeing once I shifted to public school: it all seemed more straight-forward, more friends to choose from, less of a tiny kingdom for the folks running it. I don't know - academically there was certainly good there, but socially I'm not sure.

Around here, Montessori pretty much stops at 8th grade, so many people might not still be talking about their Montessori experiences when they are adults. I am assuming that there are a lot of people (even friends) with a Montessori education that I'm not aware of.

I went to a Montessori school for pre-school and kindergarten. I have a positive impression of the whole experience.

I went from ages 2-10. It was very good for me, but I'm not so sure it was such a great match for my daughter.
