Pattern Recommendation needed....

I am trying to build a pattern stash to play around with. For my 2yr old I think I would like to try a pattern that is trim (the fitteds we have used so far are wider), I like a high rise on him, and I would like to be able to modify for AIO, Fitted, or Pocket. Oh, and if it is free or reasonably priced even better. And if you have any suggestions for a cover or new born(we are expecting end of 1/07) pattern feel free to let me know. Thanks, Tara

I think the favorite free pattern is the Ottobre design

I've never used it but I've never personally seen a bad review on it!

I like the patterns from the nappy network and the free mamabird one. One of my friends made the entire stash for both her boys from the mamabird one. She does aio's though. I think there is a new pocket pattern on that site though. I think both patterns are listed in the resources sections. Have you checked there?

the otterbre designed dipe always comes out WAY big!!

For the newborn.. I would definately use the mama bird pattern (made my DD's whole NB stash from this pattern) http://www.geocities.com/rew4birth/Diapers.html

I use this pattern for my 5 1/2 month old DD and I really enjoy making it and using it...super easy ... I also tweaked it a bit to use as a contour when I'm feeling lazy or need a quick dipe w/o snaps or aplix

I used the Ottobre in the begining. It did run huge, but I just used the next smaller size. And don't use the fold over laundry tabs, sew the Aplix on at the end, through all layers of fabric, then sew a piece of loop tape next to it, to fold the hook onto for the wash. And don't use batting in the soaker.

Next I moved onto the free mamabird pattern. I liked that a lot. I would recommend that one. I probably could have just kept using that one but I had to see what the fuss was about with other patterns so....

I finally broke down and bought the very baby fitted and snug wrap cover pattern. I really like those, especially the wrap pattern. The diapers directions were a little funky, so I just sew it the way I feel comfortable. I like the elastic in front and back on the diaper. I also like having a soaker pattern, since I could never get the dimensions of the curvy soaker right on my own.

You can see pics of the differnet dipes from the different patterns on the link in my sig.

I used the Ottobre pattern, but folded down the rise in the middle and contoured the back. It fit my DD like a dream. I didn't do the fold over laundry tabs like the pattern states. I just sewed velcro across the front and on the sides with laundry tabs that you just fold back. The extra room in the waist was what I needed and I like it.

For another variation, I had snaps put all the way across the front and on the tabs. (Kinda like a 'Roo) that worked out well too. I use CB inserts in them.

As my DD grows and her chunky thighs get a little chunkier, I let out the rise about a 1/2 inch, but everything else still works. Not bad for free.

Thank you all for such great links and advise. I am slow at the sewing process so it will be a bit before I let you know how it went. Thanks, Tara
