UPDATE-5 yr old's filling keeps falling out!

Hi all,
Okay, I trust your experience and information so much...
I'm hoping I can get some insight.
My little boy had a cavity between his front two tightly wedged teeth. The dentist drilled out the decay and it left a tiny little hole on one tooth that looks like he got shot between the teeth with a little beebee gun. He filled it with the white resin stuff and after three months, the filling fell out. I took my son in to have it refilled..they redrilled (to resurface it) after giving him a novocaine shot It's been only a month and it fell out again!
I'm taking him back in tomorrow, poor guy.
I really want to avoid him having to be redrilled, reshot. I was told over the phone that they may have to refer him to get a crown and I prefer not to do that either since it will probably fall out this year (I lost my front teeth when I was about 5). Is there a superior resin that might stick better?
What are your experiences and ideas?

UPDATE:
Went to dentist today. They don't want to refill it (this would be the 3rd time). He has a temporary filling now. They are recommending crowns on the front two teeth (one is the one with the cavity, the other is right next to it).
I'm in such angst about this. Our insurance only covers those steel crowns which I am not willing to put on his front teeth (especially). Out of pocket cost for the tooth colored crowns is $600!
There has got to be a better option. I'm going to take him to another dentist for a second opinon.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!-Mel.

P.S.
Also, how old was your child/children when they lost one/both of their front teeth?

I wouldnt do the crowns. They can be filled with a resin material. Kinda like the tooth colored fillings (composites) that adults get, but a differant form. Its called Fugi. Hes 5 he should be losing those teeth first within the next year. between 5 and 6. But I wouldnt do a crown. Can they fill it with a composite/resin filling? I would ask that. MY ds had one done at age 3 front tooth stayed in till his tooth fell out 3 years later.

I'm not sure what kind of composite they were using but they were filling it with a white filling...those are the ones that fell out twice.
So now you've peaked my interest about the nature of fillings....I would much rather have it filled with a material that bonds better. I'm going to call and ask my dentist's office what material they used to fill the tooth so that I can do my research/get 2nd opinions.
What other kinds of materials could they use to fill this hole in his tooth (and I'm definitely going ask about Fugi)?

Regular composite that they use in adult teeth shoudl work, if bonded correctly. Is the filling on the bitting surface? If so its really hard to get anything to stay on. Hes gotta be careful and try not to bite things with his front teeth.

Hi mishpiggy and everyone else!
This cavity is between his front two teeth...not a biting surface.
I took him for a 2nd opinion this morning. This dentist feels that it is best to just "repatch" the tooth with composite filling over the next year until the tooth falls out, even if we have to do it several times.
That was his opinion...and he says no anesthetic required for that...he won't redrill (the other dentist wanted to keep redrilling), only sand it down for retention.
They don't charge for "repatches" if it falls out, I was reassured of that by the office manager.

I feel MUCH more comfortable with this option than the crowns.

That sounds like the best option!!!! If the retention is good, the filling should stay in exspecially if its not on the biting surface. Thats awesome that they dont keep charging you for it. WTG for getting a second opinion!

I was very pleased to get a 2nd opinion (and a 3rd!) that confirmed what I really preferred as a treatment option (of course I am not a dental professional).
Hey, check out this Doc's website...found him online for consultation and was so nice...answered my questions and gave the 3rd opinion that matched the 2nd opinion.

Excellent option! My son had the same cavity area, but he fell and then killed those teeth so the dentist pulled them. Now his big teeth are in and no problems.
