De-junking challenge - Page 3

Thanks for the continuing inspiration!! I hurt my back and then survived the 35 guest including parents birthday party for ds...now I am ready to get serious. Four bags of clothes and a box of kitchen stuff went to the hospice thrift store yesterday. Recycling that had built up for months is gone and lots of garbage cleared. I am ready to tackle the toys...and the books!

Well, those 4 boxes of household goods and 3 bags of clothing were taken yesterday on the charity truck. Over the weekend I got rid of several big items from the garage via freecycle. There is so much more room and that stuff is going out to be used again. It feels great. I still have a lot of work to do though!

We've been working on an area of the house per month. Boy did we get a lot done in those last weekends of the month for awhile! Apparantly our motto was: Procrastinate. Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow?

We've since gotten better at doing a little bit every weekend. Last month we tackled the kitchen and won. This month it's the bedroom. We mainly completed last weekend, so now we're on to the bedroom closet.

We cleaned out the 3 main closets today. We sorted a few things into a summer put away pile, put together a huge bag of my clothes for my sister, a smaller bag for donate and a huge pile of the kids outgrown stuff for our consignment sale in a few weeks. That part was embarressing and I told the kids we were keeping a better eye on our wardrobes this season. I have to keep Ben off of the Lands End Overstocks site

omg i am SO there, luckily i have an AMAZINGLY AWESOME firiend that has been helping me purge the #$%# i feel so much better getting the loads of crap out of the house, it is so freeing, i still have a long ways to go but am well on my way, i am doing better then i have ever done in my life (and i'm 27 )

i am so on teh bandwagon to have a nice simple house by newyears, i think it is a great idea, a great way to start the new year! I have magazines i've kept becuz god knows why, i MIGHT use them some day @@ lol, sooo stupid, i purged a bunch of those today, along w/a tv that isn't even being used (duh) and many many books, that i have either already read or realized i dont' really want or have time to read (other things i would like to read instead). Anyway i am rambling, i drank to much coffee i will check in later w/a better progress report, great thread idea glad it was started!

Last weekend I finally got to the bedroom...and the closet. It took me an entire DAY to go through all of my drawers and my closet! All day! Now I just need an entire wardrobe! I got rid of sooo many things that I had never worn or didn't fit right anymore etc.

I still have to get dh to go through his...he has sooo many clothes! Things that still have the tags on them..things from HIGH SCHOOL! Yikes! I think I may have to hold his hand through this one!

Still really need to get to the bathroom cupboard, the office, the dining room, and the rest of the kitchen cupboards... and then actually start getting rid of the neat (but very large) piles in the basement!

I would say that we are about 50% done with our house....

Next on my list: 1. office!!!! 2. bathroom 3.dh's clothes

Ok, I'm getting off this computer right now to go work on teh basement some more...DH is gone for 4 months now...wonder what I can get done in that amount of time????

Okay....I am on vacation so here I go....first laundry, finding the floors, and sorting as I go. I overhauled the laundry room last night and am hoping to go through the kitchen top to bottom today.

I'm posting this here in the hope that it will keep me from procrastinating.

I'm going to get the donation stuff OUT of the house this week and set up a plastic tub so that anything else we decide to give away will be easy to tote to the donation center.

I'll play!

We're thinking of moving out of state, so I'm trying hard to declutter and organize now. I want moving to be easy! So far it feels like the house is looking worse because I've pulled all kinds of crap out of their storage places. But I am getting rid of a lot! So far three trunkloads, and a fourth is in the making right now.

We are moving to our newly built home very soon...yikes...less than a month. Plus we are having a baby before the year is out. Oh, and DH is deploying within 2 months of the baby's arrival too.

Pathetically though, what is motivating us the most is the fact that WE have to pay for this move (we're military and used to THEM paying, sending in the packers with boxes, tape, everything while you sit back and order everyone pizza). Looking around me, I'm thinking....'No way am I PAYING someone to move this crap.'

So, garbage day in on Wednesday. I bought a box of 100 lawn and leaf bags, you know, the 50+ gallon size or something absurd like that. We had six of them out at the curb last week, and that was in addition to our normal household garbage. I've got another 4 full of stuff to be donated to Good Will.

I figure if I can fill those 100 bags with either trash or donation items, we'll be WAY ahead of the game when we move the remaining stuff to our new house. We shall see....

My kids actually think it's fun to whip out a new bag, 'fluff it up' as they put it, and watch me go crazy filling it. Unless it's THEIR stuff...must do that after bedtime.

We are moving in 2 months so I've been decluttering a lot the past month or so. I hate unpacking a bunch of stuff and saying to myself "wth did I move this again??" So I've been really on top of getting rid of stuff. Dh is a packrat so I can only declutter so much but mine and the kids stuff can go.

That's so smart. You're better than I am! I really should have done that 5 years ago when we moved here. As I'm decluttering closets now, I'm thinking almost that exact line: "WTH was I thinking?"
It took me 3 moves to figure that out . The move before this one I got rid of 7 trashbags full of donations and 1 of trash. I still had a few "why did I move this?" thoughts after that. So I've been decluttering again to make sure I'm only taking essentials this time.

What I need to do is be more careful about what comes in so I don't have to declutter so much. I'm working on that one . I've stopped buying dvds and I'm taking better stock in clothing. If we have enough I'm not buying more. I used to buy more just because it was on clearance and so cheap. It's not a bargain if we have too much that never gets worn though.
