Fleece and wool questions for winter

I'm thinking ahed to what to do in the winter for diapering/dressing at home (even though we've had above 100 for 20 plus days and cold weather seems impossible!)

For the summer, I've dressed 8 mo ds in either a fleece pocket or stuffable fitted with fleece "bloomers" over and a T-shirt. This is great at home, but of course the fleece wicks when we go out. So for outings or church (when I want him to wear cute "american" clothes) he is in pockets - fb or wonderoos. Also for naps or at night he has to wear a pocket because the fleece will wick and I have a wet bed and a short nap!

I've read all about wool and how wonderful it is, so last week I knit my first soaker. I like it, but it seems to cover him more than his fleece does so he probably won't wear it too much yet. It was fun, and I will probably make more. But alot more time-consuming than sewing fleece pants.

Here are my ideas for winter - fleece pants made from a regular pants pattern to put on over his fitteds, or wool longies to put on over fitteds, and a long sleeve T-shirt.

Will wool (if properly lanolized) give me the wicking problem for naps or at night? And what about wool shorties under clothes? Will they wick to the clothing?

I just don't want to spend the time knitting pants if they aren't really going to be that superior (although I CAN knit while ds plays and can't use the sewing machine so it might not really be that much extra time.)

Sorry this is so long. I'd love to hear some voices of experience.

I used wool almost exclusively with DS. No leaking- even overnight (unless the cover needed to be lanolized and/or there wasn't enough absorbancy in the diaper underneath). I found the knitted stuff too bulky under his clothes- I sewed him a lot of covers out of wool felt.

I think knitted longies with long-sleeved t-shirts would make great winter clothes.

One more question to add,

What about regular pants pattern made with felted wool fabric? Has anyone tried this?

I have, but I found I had to make my own pattern because his butt is so bulky lol.

Sounds like a great plan! I need to get started on fleece and wool pants next!

Won't regular fleece sweatpants work over a fitted? Probably not as well as wool, but should work the same as a fleece cover, right?

I've used fleece pants and recycled sweater wool pants as bottoms for winter diapering. I LOVE wool pants over fitteds for winter. Warm, cozy, effective. I've had mixed luck with fleece pants. I've used Old Navy pants and MM 200 wt fleece pants that I made myself. Both wicked more than wool and smelled after just two pees, requiring a clothing change. My wool pants are good for weeks as long as Jack doesn't eat spaghetti in them.

I love knitted pants and soakers too, but if you are interested in whipping up a few pairs from sweaters (I can make them in about 20 minutes) there are lots of links in posts here or if you google.
