Need some help, confused about AIO's

Hello,
I am new here to this forum, sewing cloth diapers and everything in general relating to this subject so please bare with me!!

I have a pattern for AIO's that I really would like to try. It looks simple enough and my mom is going to help me with the sewing part. The part I'm confused about is the PUL. I have found where I can order it but it only seems to come in solid colors. The big question I have is can I use another type of fabric with cute patterns on it with the PUL. So basically the part you would see would be the pattern fabric, then the PUL, then the inner absorbent fabric with the soaker sewn in. The pattern says to sew it together with FOE. Otherwise where can I find cute patterned PUL?

Can anyone help me with this question of mine. Sorry I am such a novice. I hope to order my stuff soon and begin on this journey of cloth diapering!!
Thanks

Some folks send print fabric to Fabrite to be laminated, usually through a coop. This can take a long time...
You can buy print PUL cuts or by the yard -- check the diaper supply sticky at the top of this page...also there's a lady on ebay who sells print PUL.
Sometimes coops offer leftovers. Or you could ask some sewing mamas if they want to sell or trade cuts.

BUT...cotton print PUL isn't as leak resistant as the polyester knit solids. Also, it can be kind of stiff.
I prefer the FOE-bound covers and pockets that I've made with solid PUL topped with a cute print, just as you are suggesting. They are softer, and you have a wider selection of outer fabrics. If the outer fabric is polyester, I sometimes T&T instead of using FOE. I just finished a T&T pocket diaper with microfleece inside, hidden PUL, and a fuzzy cheetah-skin print polyester fabric that I found on clearance at my local fabric store (no waiting or shipping costs!)

Have fun with your diaper-sewing adventures! But be warned --it is highly addictive!

Thank you.
I hate to sound dumb but the pic you showed me of the FOE bound print. What is on the outside of that and where is the PUL? Also the last one with the hidden pul how did you do that. I tell you I really am new to all this and would like just a bit more understanding.
Thanks again.

For covers, you cut out one layer of PUL and one layer of your cute print. pin or glue stick or baste them wrong sides together. Then bind the two layers together with FOE. Some mamas like the shiny side of the PUL next to the baby (easier to wipe off and reuse several times before laundering) and some like the fabric side of the solid PUL next to the baby (they prefer the feel). Either way protects your lap. For any style of FOE- bound diaper (pocket, fitted, AIO), just stack your layers as they will appear in the final product and bind. I like to cut the PUL layer slightly bigger than the other layers (or trim the outer layer after basting) so that the inner and outer cottons never touch directly.

For Turn and Topstitch styles, you must not have more than one absorbant layer or you will get wicking to the outside of the diaper -- make sure there is no pathway in the seam allowance for the liquid to travel from the inside to the outside. For the shiny ant pocket and the cheetah pocket, none of the layers are absorbant. I basted the outer polyester print to the solid PUL (shiny side toward the outer print) and treated this as one layer. Then I sewed this layer to the inner microfleece lining wrong sides together, added the elastic, turned it inside out, and topstitched (be sure to use polyester thread, not cotton!).

I hope that makes sense!
