Paternity Leave - How Much Time Did You Get Off, If Any? - Page 4

Just to add to that last post... (Canadian leave)

Quebec has a slightly different system... http://www.rqap.gouv.qc.ca/prestations/index_en.asp

Mat leave: can only be take by mom
Paternity Leave: can only be taken by Dad
Parental Leave: can be used by both (either share it or take all)
Adoption Leave: can be shared by both parents (or taken by one)

The Salary Cap is higher than the Canadian plan (so salary up to 55000)

We also get the choice of two plans...

Under the basic Plan: (longer leave/less pay)

Mat Leave: 18 weeks at 70%
Pat Leave: 5 weeks at 70%
Parental: 5 weeks at 70% and then 25 weeks at 55%
Adoption: 12 weeks at 70% and then 25 weeks at 55%

Under the Special Plan (less leave/ more pay)

Mat Leave: 15 weeks at 75%
Pat Leave: 3 weeks at 75%
Parental: 25 weeks at 75%
Adoption: 28 weeks at 75%

So in our case, I am a SAHM and we couldn't afford for DH to take a longer leave at 55%... but 75% we can handle with the cut of transportation costs, less lunches etc...
So he gets 1 week from his employer, he will be taking one week of his vacation time for an additional buffer and then he will take his 3 weeks Paternity plus the 25 weeks Parental for a total of 30 weeks (28 of them at 75% of his salary)

I got one paid week FMLA. I was allowed up to 12 weeks, but only one paid.

I took an additional week of vacation, for a grand total of two weeks off.
