Can you paint or dye white Bumkins AIOs?

I have some white Bumkins AIO's and was wondering if there's any way to embellish them. Are there any paints or dyes that would be permanent on them?

I am wondering if this can be done with Bummis SWW and FB's...

I saw on diaperpin that some people were dying their bumgenius diapers with kool-aid. And if I'm not mistaken, bumkins and bumgenius outers are both nylon taffeta. The only difference is the inside of the bumkins would take the dye too (the bg's stay white on the inside). Got lurk over there and see how they were doing it.

I had a fuzzi bunz that was hand-painted with some type of fabric paint that held up really well. Don't know what it was or if it would work with bumkins though.

koolaid or food coloring will only dye animal based fibers. It may stain your diaper pretty good though.

I can't see any reason why you couldn't use a good dye though like from dharma trading.

moving this to crafts, btw

Kool-aid is an acid dye and will dye nylon. Nylon dyes like wool and silk, for some reason that I am sure a chemist would understand. I've kool-aid dyed Dappi pull-on nylon covers before, the nylon was lighter than my results with other fibers like silk or wool, I think because the nylon is coated to make it more waterproof. You could try kool-aid or acid dyes from Dharma. None of the other dyes will work though.

If you do a search on Pentel dye sticks, there are threads talking about using these on PUL like FBs. And a browse through the Dharma catalogue will turn up some fabric paints that work on nylon and polyester that might be worth some experimentation, I know there are wahms using fabric paints on PUL.

And as a last resort or maybe not, I bought a cover that a mama had doodled on with a Sharpie, and the doodle is still there.

Now that's an idea I could definitely go with... already have the sharpies, so no added expense....

At this point I"ll probably just leave them white because there's no extra $ for craft supplies. But I'm enjoying researching how to embellish them for future reference!
